I have thoughts on the whole MCP vs. CLI debate.

Xcode 26.3 with support for Claude Code and MCP.
Xcode 26.3 now supports agentic coding and, most importantly, MCP out-of-the-box.
The pumpkin is missing 🎃
For the past three months I've been living exclusively in Linux and macOS lands, and I think I am here to stay.
It's fast, it's unobtrusive, and HIGHLY composable - Claude Code has been fantastic at helping put together all the necessary configuration scripts that I can use to re-pave my boxes.
Precisely this.
At a fundamental level, that's basically it.
I find it funny to see every month the same re-hashed "MCP is dead" arguments when someone discovers that LLMs are really good at invoking CLIs 😃
As someone somewhat biased here, MCP and CLI serve different purposes in different contexts. They will both co-exists.
And as a side-note, the donation to AAIF does not impact the technical evolution and direction of MCP - we still have a lot more work ahead! 😃
This is actually really good feedback - thank you. We want to make MCP easier to debug and test at the protocol level beyond the current tooling.
Interesting - can you link me to the MCP server? It very well could be that the tool descriptions are not explicit enough for Claude to properly identify the tools.
Love it. We appreciate your support! 🧡
The MCP vs. CLI discourse is somewhat entertaining to me because it's akin to arguing whether you should take a car or a plane to get from point A to point B.
There's a myriad of variables involved for the right decision.
Use what gets the job done.
Both will co-exist.
To quote J.R.R. Tolkien:
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
Thank you Matt - your kind words mean a lot!
The only way!
If you’re a Claude Code user, @ballingt.com is a must follow!

You’re too kind 🙏
Incredibly proud of our team at @anthropic.com and the work we’re doing. In many ways, this shows how fortunate I am to be working alongside some of the smartest folks in the industry that don’t shy away from doing the right thing. It’s a one-of-a-kind place.

This is going to be the major shift in engineering - just like higher-level abstractions (e.g., “no-code”) allowed people to build more, that didn’t suddenly replace the need for taste and customer knowledge.
iPhone was not the first smartphone to invent what it is. Taste was a key differentiator.
My lifehack for speedrunning useful projects with Claude Code is to always start with tests.
Hill climbing is so much easier when the agent has a good baseline to work against.
Good feedback! Something to work on, for sure.
Plus, auth with MCP is mostly a solved problem, being built on top of OAuth and all, and with a brand-new extensibility system.
Such a good doc. I want us to have a good tutorial on this on the official MCP site.
We're working on it. There were a few spec changes recently that will improve the observability situation.
This year I also want to write a few more docs on how to properly do o11y with MCP - the work of @lizthegrey.com and @charity.wtf is going to be a good point of inspiration.
If you are building with MCP, would love to hear your feedback on how we can make that experience better.
Love to see the doc our team poured our heart and soul into making referenced here ✨
If you see anything missing there - let me know, it's an ever-evolving page.
Corollary to this - be very selective about who you will listen to for advice relevant to your situation and career stage. My advice for breaking into tech at this point in time might not be as useful or actionable as that of someone ambitious and talented who just did this exact move last year.
This is something we’re actively working on improving from a developer experience standpoint. I want more developers to get more comfortable building remote MCP servers.
