anyone who was expecting, or planning for, hundreds of thousands from a genre that was doing ~100k total until late 2014 is an insane person whose opinions can be ignored

between the free kits and rook runs you can play a solid amount of time with basically zero gear fear - and yeah maybe you'll get stomped a few more times than if you'd had a purple or whatever but... just requeue and go again, is chill
watching the comments on reels shift from "mid game, art bad" to "skill issue" on videos complaining about the PVP or PVE has been a hell of a thing to watch

Unfortunately being developed at a time when Live Service Brainworms were at their peak doomed it to being PVP in some way if only so it didn’t step on Destiny’s toes.

i think i'm about 20 hours in and just playing for the fun of shootin things, all loot is transitory, just upgrading my Rook so I can go be a bastard
yeah 10-ish laps of fun and then same old stuff
but with ferrari being better off the start, and merc being better over distance, at least we might get to see that fun 10 laps more often
the kind of stuff that bungie can pull off with six months of crunch is absurd
i hope it's hitting numbers good enough to a) give those devs some rest, and b) so we can see what it looks like with another year of improvements

i am increasingly convinced (at least in aus, but i am sure this is somewhat generalisable) that one of the main ways to do it is entryism into community sport - be it via volunteering or sponsorship of players or clubs
