Jeff Smith's Naruto
Trying to look edgy and mysterious on the train at night is hard when the neon lights illuminating your grim countenance are from the Franz Bread Bakery sign
If youβre at #eccc please donβt forget to come to the Basement! A lot of people seem to think thereβs only Funko pops and long box comics and blind boxes, but they moved a bunch of indie artists down here too! Donβt miss out!!
Had a great convo with someone while in line where we realized a superhero outfit is only called a uniform if they are sponsored by the state/authority (Avengers) while if they are acting outside of the purview of the state its referred to as a costume
(This is both in and out of universe btw)

Text from the Super Mario promo number that says "Delayed Transmission - save this new contact image" and it has Nintendo's ROB with glowing green eyes
So I forgot I signed up for the Mario Movie texts for the first one I guess ROB is gonna be in it??
This week is Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle and I'll be there all 4 days! It's one of my favorite shows each year.
I'm on panels (Convention Horror Stories, LitRPGs), doing signings, and set up with Comic Sketch Art in Artist Alley at TABLE A-23!

I'm not gonna name names, but there are some notorious low-effort booths that should be in Arch purgatory but instead have a big spot in Artist Alley/publishers.
Ai, laser cut wood with random fandom stuff, etc. but there's also a few really high-quality vendors that seem to have been sent to slop purgatory for no good reason?
There's a few blatant mismatches between the 3 floors (AA, Exhibitors, and Arch Exhibitors)
One thing that's strange at ECCC this year is the exhibitors at the Arch Building. It's where will call and the celebrities are, so a ton of folks are going to at least start there.
It seemed like they tried to put most of the "low-effort" booths here like 3-d printed dragons, plausibly deniable...
We are so blessed with Ryan North using Marvel Time Travel shenanigans to cram as much of a sapphic happy ending in as he could
I think we'll just have to see if that pushes comic-motivated shoppers to spend their comic dollars on more expensive comics from upstairs publishers and artist alley or if they just put their money towards not-comics...
Mandating union labor is something I totally understand!
Charging by the weight is something I'm not familiar with though. (Unless I'm mistaken, I think most places usually charge by the pallet.)
It does effectively block out middle sized comic retailers and any publishers who focus on big books
Going through my longboxes last night and yup glad I have these still
Oh interesting, it's the convention center and not Reedpop! That makes sense and also severely limits what scale of book exhibitors/vendors can be in that venue in the future (hoo boy)
I am starting to wonder if we are having a Reedpop supply/demand mismatch for comic content. Reedpop determines a lot by guest surveys after the con and I wonder if those have a sampling bias
I love Milestone everything and didn't even know until the week of because of your post! Thanks for shouting to the rooftops or I would've missed it
Exhibitors also seem to be thrown in the three different areas with little rhyme or reason. Before they generally linked similar things (comics, games, video games) together but now it seems more haphazard
If you don't use their labor, you don't get to use the loading area and have to bring everything in via the front door. That means comic trade liquidators are not here this year and even places selling trades a discount have less stock.
Some random stuff I learned/noticed on foot
1. Way less people who sell actual comics in artist alley, way more print/stickers/things
2. Reedpop required exhibitiors in the basement to use Reedpop labor and charged by the pound to haul things in

Was it the egg grapes?
I'll be on the Chills and Craft of Horror Comics panel today at 2:30pm! π»
Our horror panel is today at ECCC!!
Itβs likely the artist behind that ECCC table paid at least
$450 for the table
$500-700 for lodging
$150 (+) for food/drink
$300+ for merch.
The financial risk is real! Be nice to the creators behind the table and even if you donβt got the $$ to spare, a kind word goes a long way.
A sweating fast food CEO eating a dozen burgers on camera spitting out βIS THIS WHAT YOU PEOPLE WANTβ
Text reads: Oh no! I was supposed to be at ECCC but instead I caught the flu! So it's time for a huge shop drop. There's also a doodle of me laying in bed. A collage of various risograph prints, stickers, and a book fill the page.
Folks, I caught the flu this week and won't be able to make it to ECCC. I've just dropped a bunch of new/con exclusive stuff on my online shop to help make up for the loss, and you can get 15% off til 3/15 if you use the code "BOOFLU"

Shares greatly appreciated!
D'you ever get a stupid idea in your head and then you can't do anything else until you get it out? π£
The more the creepier??
