In 2014, I visited eastern DRC, where @msf.org teams were treating sleeping sickness - the only available treatment was a drug so toxic it killed 1 in 20 patients. In 2026 I'm so proud that, thanks to @dndi.org, patients can be cured with a single dose of a groundbreaking new oral drug, acoziborole.
The full-scale war in Ukraine continues to empty communities, pushing people into displacement shelters. It’s heartening to see that @MSF has stepped up presence in shelters through mobile clinics, providing people with some care during a harsh winter:
Yesterday, I briefed the UN Security Council about the eastern region of the DRC.
I urged the Council to find the will to insist that civilians are not expendable, and that their rights to safety and dignity are non-negotiable.

I’ll never forget the feeling of returning to Tigray, Ethiopia, at the end of the war in 2022, to restart services around Shire and Sheraro. At that time, people would wait for more than a day to see a doctor.
