having used claude extensively for the past couple of months, i think there is still a lot of value to understanding your code and steering it intentionally. the amount of incidental complexity claude accumulates otherwise (which mostly results in bugs that it can't ever fix reliably) is staggering.
I finally had a chance to use GitHub Copilot in plan/agent mode, and it kind of broke my brain. In 10 minutes, it wrote a test application that would have taken me a few days to write. Extraordinary.

In 1996 Quake was 50 MB. I could do networking, complex 3D rendering and sound.
30 years later we need 13 GB and still struggle to center a div across two browsers.
