Personal news: I'm leaving my Editor-at-large role at Eurogamer & Gamer Network as part of new cuts. I last year approached my move to Eurogamer & VG247's skeletonization with reluctance, but I ultimately greatly enjoyed giving EG a go. But now after 10yrs & in difficult conditions, it's time to go.
In short, please share these posts (and those of my affected colleagues). I feel I’d be a great asset to so many different teams. In the turbulent world of video games, I’m confident I’m as close to a sure thing you can get. Bonus: I can start immediately.
Well then. After 9 years my role of Editorial Director at Eurogamer/IGNE has been made redundant. If you’re reading this and feel I have a lot of valuable experience (I do), I’m keen to explore any opportunities (full time, consulting, other) in the games industry. I am great.

Four years ago today was my first day with @eurogamer.bsky.social and, thanks to a massive storm hitting my village and knocking out the power, I met my new colleagues from the front seat of my car in a Tesco carpark 40 miles from home so I could get 4G - I'm glad they still kept me after that 🤣

I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who has shown me so much love and kindness when all I've wanted to do is hide myself away.
Thankfully though, in the last decade, I've built up a wonderful support network of dear friends and brilliant professionals who are always there when I've felt myself dipping.
I would lie in bed motionless for hours (on these days, my late dog The Captain was a true source of love and comfort, I would have been lost without him - picture below).
10 years later, and I'm so proud of how far I've come, but I still often worry that I will regress back to where I once was.

I was very near the start of my mental health journey in 2016, and while there were good days (first photo above and this post) where I felt like I was seeing some light, there were also many others where the darkness in my mind felt suffocating.
2016 wasn't an easy one. I was still raw from the severe depression and PTSD I experienced before, during and after the birth of my second child, as well as adjusting to an OCD diagnosis. But, I was healing!

Apparently today is Blue Monday, the "most depressing day of the year". I don't personally buy into this, but I am going to take the opportunity to highlight my own mental health story, by combining it with the 2016 trend 🧵

It's great that @lilchopshopgal.bsky.social sought Maxence out to talk about this. I imagine there are many other such situations where a mo-cap performer has remained invisible. But such is the Clair Obscur effect that it's changed his life - and rightfully so - regardless.
