on top of that you also need to report ur foreign bank accs if they had a sum of 10kUSD at any time during the year.

you're basically forced to keep reporting everything you do money-wise to a country you don't interact with in the slightest anymore

now you ask "if they moved to Germany, why do they even have to file US taxes" but guess what, this amazing country is literally the only developed (debatable adjective) country in the world who forces it's citizens, no matter their location on earth, to file income tax every year.

for the US, you need to rely on external services and guess what, they usually don't support the full spectrum of options (or you need to pay extra for those). especially for expats, like my spouse who moved to Germany last year, it is basically impossible to use one of the most common services.

you know how most countries have an official website nowadays where you can just file your taxes without much issue?

the German one is actually not bad. on top of the fact that for the simplest cases you don't even have to manually file your taxes. a lot of my friends have never done it.

I see posts about US taxes in my timeline and oh boy, let me tell you how fucked up this system is.
