Apropos of the orange satan driving oil up to $108 a barrel, my bicycle still gets 75 miles per burrito.
I have no idea what gasoline costs, don't care.

If youβre pushing housing in lowrise nβhoods, eliminating useless sideyards is the unlock for the urban design everybody says they want.
In exchange for sideyards that no one uses, you get better units, lush interior courtyards, space for trees and play, higher density and lower energy use.
Interesting notes on the historic link between our built environment and racial segregation in California (plus an incidental earthquake reference in the last image; hey, it's California).
"Californiaβand several other localitiesβtechnically have a law on the book that allows cities to set a weight limit for vehicles on its roads, which many newer, larger SUVs exceed. The laws are largely unenforced, but could that change?"
Super fun read for your Sunday!
We asked the question: How did S.F. homes get so colorful?
The answer was a journey, involving battleship paint, psychedelics and a rainbow home a block from the Painted Ladies. (Which were once zoned for demolition! π€―)

Refusing to build supportive housing for those who would otherwise be homeless means more unhoused people living on our streets and in our parks, AND much higher public costs paid by all of us. Itβs as simple as that. #UrbanTruth
If you built the highlighted yellow region of the Bay Area to the density of Manhattan, you could fit the entire population of the state of California in there. Don't tell me California is full!

Not to mention our lungs and brains will be better off.

How Jeffrey Epstein Seeded The Great Crypto Grift and The Modern Right-Wing Culture
Crypto and Bitcoin were vehicles for Epstein and his cabal of dystopian racists to make money, undermine democracy, subvert regulations, and usher forth right-wing populism.

Corpus Christi is nearly out of water and will likely hit a crisis point within months. If nothing is done, and so far the Texas GOP donβt seem to be taking it seriously, the entire city would essentially shutdown hurting fuel and gas prices
Glory to you and your chair!
Sounds great π
Just think of all the ways Balboa Park could be transformed to allow for faster access by cars.
As this was happening you were told shoplifting and home invasions were grave threats you needed to abandon any pretense of sympathy to address.
high labor costs, expensive and anomalous standards, poor planning, and regressive taxation (the city pushes all of these costs on newcomers instead of taxing broadly to fund infrastructure upgrades which benefit everyone)
conclusive evidence we bombed the elementary school
Los Angeles landlord Twitter is crashing out as they realize that YIMBYs are supporting Nithya Raman because we want to end the housing shortage and that we donβt really care about protecting incumbent landlordsβ profit margins.
No one knows what rural is I swear to god! A city of 94k is not rural!

Our BBC podcast Youβre Dead To Me has covered many extraordinary women from history, as well as broader themes in social & gender history. Itβs a funny show, but we take it seriously, so why not give it a try? π

At least 10 people have died in Los Angeles County Jails this year (2 months). An unpleasant reminder that in-custody deaths are common AND very few people do anything about it.

This is vibes-only but...single-stair just feels safer. Instead of a single wall of windows and a long hallway, like you find in a double-loaded corridor building, a single-stair building has the stairs right outside your unit. And you've got windows on 2 or 3 sides, not just 1.
Just thinking about how much nicer it would be if they banned traffic completely on parts of Hollywood Boulevard
