Plots of the viscosity for (a) a model with a viscosity increase at 1,000 km depth, separate from the phase change at 660 km depth (b) versus slab tip flattening for an oceanic overriding plate, highlighting the combined influence of the continent and the viscosity structure of the mantle in the dynamics of deep slabs.

In this new study, @geoniette.bsky.social has done a fabulous job with this work on the dynamics of deep, sinking plate tectonic slabs. 🌍💡

2) Our preference for certain colours cannot trump the argument for scientific accuracy or inclusivity (Not sure why people think it does).
