Peaceful and Dormant
Thanks for asking. Sorry to let the feed go stale. I've been stuck in a galactic sized game of whack-a-mole. Due to a recent job getting delayed, I'm optimistic that I can get a handful of short episodes out this month. Not big episodes, but small things.

I tried to take a photo of a grasshopper on my windshield, but now it looks like a gigantic bug destroying the town.
@profanity.accountant do I have swears?

Powerpoint slide with a bear standing on its hind legs in a meadow. Text reads: Combing the Soundscape: Special techniques for sourcing audio. with Jeff Emtman
A table of contents slide showing many images of things related to sounds, including animorphs, musical instruments, microphones, a captcha puzzle, a bird, software, spectrograms, a shortwave waterfall chart, an apple, a rhombus, etc.
Looking forward to leading a session at the MIRP Meeting in Belgium on Weds. Hope to see you there.
Ahh, looks like you've got a linear spectrogram. If you go into view-->Peak Display Settings, you can adjust the scale so it's logarithmic. Linear is good for high freq definition, and these log'd curves give better definition on the low freqs.
I suspect that the benefit of having the extra freq info is lost by the small track height. Try with this same clip I used with a big track height.

I think so. I think also the biggest gains from increasing FFT resolution is shown at low freqs. I forgot this earlier when I told you it might be a bug. I'm not more confident that this is just an inherent trade-off with spectrograms.
I'm not great with FFT, but if I understand right, in FFT, you have to trade off between time-based accuracy and frequency based accuracy. So, I think that transients have to fade a bit as you increase the fft size.
Here's the difference for me.
Is your track height tall enough? It only kicks in when it's kinda tall, too.
Hmm, for me, the high res is definitely more detailed. Possible you've found a bug? Here are my settings:
Quite happy about the new high-res spectrogram option in #reaperdaw
Low-res on the left, high-res on the right.
@brendanpbaker.bsky.social Thank you for requesting this. I was getting quite confused about unexpected normalization results. Saw they integrated the fix.

I've used quite a lot of cassette tape emulation plugins for #sounddesign and I'm coming to the conclusion that Spectral Audio's (now) free OSC-45 sounds the nicest of them all. Beautiful saturation and wow/flutter emulation. archive.org/details/ocs-...
My mother in law used him and was satisfied with his service that's why I share his post.
I certainly hope that if you need the group rate on duct cleaning you'd come to me first and not those other hacks.
Also we broke the episode. But it'll be back soon.
Probably because we're not very good at promo! But glad you found us.
New Neutrinowatch episode is out. Also come watch us (@martinaustwick.bsky.social) perform at Podfest tonight!

Ello! Top lad @jeffemtman.com just published a new episode of Neutrinowatch! "Best of the Manosphere" is a daily distillation of all the best bits of your favourite manpods into a wonderful piece of art. It's the idea-summarizing, trailblazing, time-saving game-changer! pod.link/1567632084/e...
Thank you!
Look at this nice picture of me pushing @martinaustwick.bsky.social out of the way. Thank you XMTR for having us there to perform our weird Neutrinowatch stuff. and thank you Rachel Manns for the photo. More of the festival photos here: www.xmtr.fm/festival
If anyone's coming to Berlin for #prixeuropa, I'd love to meet up for coffee.
and that's just the ones I remember
