How do you get people in a community to engage with each other? It's not enough to give people a place to talk. You need to *prompt* engagement. Hive shares 15 lessons from building their farmed animal welfare community π www.joinhive.org/updates/our-...
Yep, although I don't know how carefully the graphic has been fact-checked π
Lifestyle changes are hard, but donations are easy. This graphic from FarmKind suggests more people should consider donations as an avenue for change. What do you think? Is their chart accurate?
Genuine question: does Kantian ethics mean that you have to actually read the terms and conditions before clicking agree?
There are so many fun topics it is hard to pick! For climate change ethics, I like John Broome's book Climate Matters. And you can assign "Itβs Not My Fault" from Sinnott-Armstrong for a contrasting perspective.
innovateanimalag.org: IAA researches how agricultural technologies (like in-ovo sexing) can improve the lives of farm animals β but without forcing negative trade-offs upon the consumer (or the farmer). With alt-protein stalled and veganism niche, this remains a path to a better food system.
Two animal welfare non-profits that I think are cool but you might not have heard of:β¨β¨
FarmKind.giving: These guys built a cool donation platform that calculates (a) how many animals are raised for your diet and (b) how many animals you can help by giving to various animal welfare charities.
I'm building an app that will allow users to monitor their ecological footprint (not just carbon footprint) and fund charities that reform the food system through a subscription.
Would love to connect with other EAs :)
Photo shows meat of varying shades of red.
The lighter the meat color, the greater the suffering. Lewis Bollard explains why on twitter (x.com/Lewis_Bollar...). Mainly it is because darker meat tends to come from larger animals.
How much good do entrepreneurs do? I talk about the different kinds of entrepreneurship, both the good and the bad, and how entrepreneurship can be a route towards a high impact career.

Utilitarianism is too demanding. Traditional deontology is not demanding enough. I defend progressive deontology: the worse the world, the more demanding morality is.
