Stephan, Friedrich, Gretl, and Liesl were all living in deplorable conditions without adequate food, water, or shelter. They have now been treated for the parasites and respiratory infections they came in with, and they will be safe, healthy, and happy with us for life. 💕

If you missed their story, basically we were called to a homestead by game wardens to save two pigs during the arctic blast and ended up having to take the pigs, four goats, and four geese or all would have died. You can read more here: www.patreon.com/posts/emerge...

Peekaboo, Fluffy! This beautiful girl has a very traumatic history and is not socialized to humans. 💔 She has become a little more relaxed than when she first arrived last year, but she's still a bit unsure and wary of people. You simply can't force trust, it has to be earned at their pace.

They generally do try to retire them into good homes. Some of these horses decide they have had enough of this type of work. The fear is always where any horse will end up. Many of the Mounted Horses are draft crosses. These horses tend to show up older and in auctions quite a bit as well.

All of our residents have stories, but sweet Zydin might have a few more than most because he is a former Detroit mounted police horse. Thankfully he is retired from that life and his only job now is to be a healthy, happy horse!
