Im my world of small, efficient teams (thank you #RubyOnRails), hiring is always a bit tricky. You really need everybody to fit in and work well within the group – like in a band.

But sometimes, you hire someone who's ever better than that. And it's a really good experience, for which I'm grateful.

Same here. Top topic at work, in fact.

I also struggle with this, and not only in OSS.

Who I am talking to? Who deserves the credit? Because you can use an agent as a tool to speed you up, still having full agency about what is going on, but a different thing is talking to someone that has not made the effort to understand the problem.

Something I'm not yet clear on how to handle these days is what to do with obvious LLM PRs on Open Source projects.

When a human submit a PR that needs some work, often enough I'll go through rounds of review to progressively get the PR in a mergeable state.

So, if I get this right, the innovative UI that Slack came up with to “catch up on missed messages” is an email client from 2002?

Every cool hero has a catchphrase. “Call me Snake”. “I love it when a plan comes together". "By the power of Grayskull".

Mine is: ”I don't do estimates”.

Trump and Farage

A real shame if this photo went viral again today.

Leather Temple: the bland(-ish) drums made for a deceptively disappointing first listen, but it is actually a really solid record. Rich and punchy. Makes me want to mow down 16-bit sprites.

Thank you, “progress”. Now I hate computers.

I mean, appreciating what the system is able to do is fun and impressive, you certainly enjoy that aspect of it.

But it is a different angle. I don't know if I would be attracted to this kind of programming if I was a kid today.

We’re making great progress towards sanity and efficiency at work: our never-ending meetings are now called “forums”. Huge step forward.

I updated Keynote today. The shitty upsell for the shitty subscription service is so distasteful that it could be the final push to get me off macOS after 25 years.

I really don't want to leave the walled garden. But if it's turning to the same landfill as everywhere else…

Getting programmers who have learned from bad teachers from average to great is an uphill battle in the age of coding agents.

“Hey, can you look at my code? It’s so complex that I worry that the others won’t be able to understand it without the help of a coding agent.”

And this, kids, is how I lost the will to live.

It doesn’t happen often, but there are times when I really despair at the software industry and just want to quit and forget it even exists.

Currently on rotation: Danzig 4.
