I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.
this guy's smart and he found it useful, what does that mean for the rest of us?
well it's still blood soaked machinery you rent from fascists so it's not affecting my analysis really
i think enthusiastic LLM use is mostly a stack of cognitive biases, unacknowledged plagiarism, and unmet needs in a trenchcoat
but also my main objections aren't about them being bad at tasks so i don't care if you think they've gotten better at it

I visit GoDaddy just once per year to manage some domains, and every time the experience is just worse.
The site loads more slowly than ever, I am bombarded with "AI Opportunities" and design prompts, and I cant even update my payment info because the site gets an unknown error.
There you go. An overt technofascist Trump ally will now own CBS, CNN, HBO, Paramount, Warner Brothers, Discovery, and a big chunk of TikTok
The richest man owns X.
The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.
See the problem here?
I could write for days, months, years.
I could read decades of sci-fi from the most annoying Golden Age authors.
I could peruse the most cringe things on TikTok.
And still, I could never come up with the deeply embarrassing things Sam Altman says on any given Tuesday
Painting of Link with a million little gadgets and weapons from across the games. I worked harder on this in a 5 week period than any other thing Iβve ever painted. I think I almost died working on this lol
Happy Zelda 40th anniversary!
"Bedford Borough Council holds no authority over the Council of Nicaea and was not responsible for the creation of the moon 4.53billion years ago."
I was disappointed to read Cory Doctorow's post where he got weirdly defensive about his LLM use and started arguing with an imaginary foe.
@tante.cc has a very thoughtful reply here:

This article by @tante.cc is wonderful and will improve your day significantly.
The question of our time is how do you artistically rebel β and win β against a totally flat cultural landscape? And before my readers, who I assume are all approximately 36 years old and very tired, say, βso what, who cares?β This does matter. I mean, just look around right now lol. You know things are bad when even OpenAI President Greg Brockman is posting stuff, like βTaste is a new core skill.β If people had taste, your company wouldnβt exist, Greg. But if everything is just attention now, and attention is completely commodified by algorithmic tech platforms, how can you push back against that? Well, I am slowly coming around to a theory on the new cool: You have to essentially pre-deplatform yourself. Culture right now is determined not by human teams of editors and producers picking and choosing what youth culture gets the spotlight, but, instead, by the unthinking algorithms that power YouTube and TikTok. Which means the only things that have the level of scarcity and danger required to be seen as cool by young people will, slowly, but surely, be whatever is unacceptable on those platforms.
A post so smart I'm almost afraid to share it.

Heldigvis har @ketanjoshi.co nettopp skrevet en rapport som avslΓΈrer blΓΈffen og som viser den Γ₯penbare sannheten: Generativ KI er en klimaversting.
OKAY BIG ONE FOR YA
NEW report out today: I dig deep into how big tech has been muddling tech types and overstating evidence to claim "AI" will make global emissions drop like a stone....
Not only will it not, it seems to be verifiably doing the opposite!!

Bezos isn't destroying the Washington Post because it isn't profitable. He's destroying the Washington Post because he's calculated that a robust free press threatens the ability of his class to warp society around their interests
The nazis raided and burned the first gender clinic. The Reagan revolution closed down most of the gender clinics in the US and left coverage uninsurable for decades. We've been here before. We'll get through just as we always have. With strength and resilience in community. They can't eradicate us.
The only surprise is they admit it
βͺDon't love the wording of this - it feels a bit like saying ChatGPT is down, forcing news writers to take a long coffee break.
It is a sign of things to come, though, if we don't change course: power and reliance on fewer and fewer superwealthy companies, that can squeeze you for all you have.
Siemens is pumping $1 billion into manufacturing fossil fuel infrastructure on the bet that power demand from ultra-inefficient text, image and video generation based off plagiarised internet content will grow massively in the future
