The issue is that in my country there's a huge difference between getting donations (money for nothing) or selling things (money for something). And while "pay what you want" is the ideal framework for my project, it leads to a lot of paperwork and even negative numbers if you get too little from it

I should learn that out, I guess links outside can be problematic (although I think I've seen it sometimes?) but I'm not sure about textual mentions.
DLCs are not an option because they are considered regular sales in my country and that means a lot of extra paperwork I don't want in my life.

I love itch.
I never used it (or similar platforms) for my own free games because I wanted to keep it all under my own space (locomalito.com) so I can present them my own way.
Sadly, it looks like people are giving up on exploring the non-commercial Internet, driving it powerless :-/

There's a lot to consider. That's why it burns my brain.
The thing is that it feels like an all or nothing situation. Full speed commercial or peaceful freeware. Midway options won't work in my current scenario, and I don't think I have the time and energy for anything big right now

Freeware on my own site makes perfect sense to me. But it's hard to keep people informed, and donations are few.
Patreon sounds nice, but I work irregularly and it will probably put a lot of self-induced pressure on me.
I'm always busy and tired and just want to free myself and make games.

...on top of the porting work, selling things online in my country requires a ton of paperwork and monthly payments that can't be covered with niche sales.
Having a publisher solve that but creates new problems. Like, it's hard to make random minor updates 10 years after a release.

My issue is like this:
I'm probably a bit too picky about releasing free games on a commercial platform. I see it like giving hard work and money to a big tech (literally feeding the troll) but getting nothing I want in exchange.
Self publishing cheap games sounds ideal but...
