California youths plead with appeals court to hear how climate change affects their lives In an appeal, lawyers for 18 California youths argued that regulators discount children's future health when weighing environmental policies.

Eighteen Californians, ages 10 to 19, are asking an appeals court to OK their claims that the EPA discriminates against children by ignoring the long-term health benefits of climate regulations. @blancabegert.bsky.social

Of course. No one wanted this war. They wanted food and health care and energy prices to go down. Now all those things will cost more.

It's a war of folly by a doddering old man who likes when things blow up and needs to distract us from the child sex ring he's connected to.

Intro to Economics was one of the classes I took as an undergraduate, one of the hardest classes in my college career. But I did learn the concept of "opportunity cost" which means, what *else* could have been done with the time and/or money that was spent on one thing (over another thing)?

As a public service, I thought I'd offer a little constructive criticism of the most popular styles of bike racks, since it appears that the entities that manufacture and install these racks are clueless about the needs of actual bike riders.

My kids' school is crumbling and seismically hazardous, hits over 95 degrees inside b/c it doesn't have air conditioning, and it's full of rats. The Moda Center is perfectly fine as-is.
Also I suspect the renovations will make high end luxury seats fancier, while regular seats will stay the same.

Inside Portland’s $1.7B climate fund, which is being floated to help fix the Moda Center Portland’s billion dollar climate fund is being eyed to help pay for upgrades to the Moda Center, in an effort to keep the Trail Blazers in the city.

There are so many worthwhile investments Portland city government should be making with the $1.7B Clean Energy Fund. Renovating the Moda Center is absolutely not one of them.

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

I think both cities and rural areas are the "real America", but caring about rural areas means caring about human rights including rights of immigrants, air and water quality, and climate change. And caring about cities means caring about exactly the same things.

Gov. Kotek’s response to Oregon's higher ed funding crisis will help shape her legacy Earlier this year, you sent nearly 900 total letters to Governor Kotek and her advisors, and this enabled member-leaders of PSU-AAUP to meet with the governor and top legislative leaders. But there’s ...

Join City Councilors in telling Gov. Kotek a shrinking PSU makes the revitalization of downtown Portland impossible. If this university contracts, it will undermine PSU's access mission and every other investment the state makes in the city's recovery. actionnetwork.org/letters/gov-...

Oregon Democrats push plan to renovate Moda Center, woo new Blazers owner The state could become a part-owner of the arena in a bid to ensure the state’s NBA franchise remains in Oregon for decades to come.

Question from @councilortkl.bsky.social : should we really be investing $600 million public dollars into Moda Center renovations while we're also talking about cutting Portland's public education, including higher ed and k-12? www.opb.org/article/2026...

Some points of conversation:
*Oregon ranks 47th in the nation for funding higher ed.
*PSU is an anchor for downtown, and cuts to PSU hurt downtown vitality.
*PSU is a driver for economic mobility.
*PSU is a place that welcomes immigrants as students and employees.

It’s obvious that eating less meat and dairy has multiple benefits for people and the planet, we don’t do it because the power of the ag lobby is extraordinary and deeply intertwined with settler colonial beliefs and power structures (just look at land grant university research!).

If Bad Bunny can cover the history of Puerto Rico, colonialism, transatlantic slavery, hemispheric consciousness, as well as contemporary life and politics in under 14 minutes, you can do your 15- or 20-minute conference presentation with time to spare.

This is torture. The US is torturing children. Children whose words and whose art contain infinitely more humanity than the people keeping them detained.

Next time somebody tries to get me to justify the existence of the humanities, I’ll just point out how for the past two Super Bowls we’ve all jumped online and engaged in collective semiotics and hermeneutics of the half-time show as text.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧡

I will eventually shut up about this but Bad Bunny’s use of the power lines is an outstanding example of how to communicate about climate and energy issues. Not about who is the smartest nerd in the room and spewing numbers but about people’s actual lives. Genius.

Good morning! Taxing the wealth of the richest 1% of Americans down to the median wealth of the next-richest 9% ($5.2 million per household) would free up $48 trillion. Redistributing that to the poorest 50% of Americans would give *68 million households* an average of *$700k per household*.
