Gonna have a bit more of a rant about the 'there's just so many damn trans women online!' thing.

I think people mistake this for some sort of systemic privilege; that we are being lifted up comparative to our peers because we are more acceptable within the public eye.

This is categorically untrue.

You see more trans women in online spaces specifically because we have been forced out of every other venue.

We have to build our own networks online where the tools to build a platform are slightly more accessible than the ones held by traditional media gatekeepers.

I have spoken with multiple trans women who have said they feel INCREDIBLE pressure to perform on social media platforms like bluesky because they have no other way to feed themselves.

Which means they have to downplay their more depressing feelings, stress about internet drama, always be positive

On platforms like YouTube or Twitch you can see the difference even more starkly.

To take an example - Abigail Thorn, probably the biggest trans Youtuber, has 1.6m subscribers.

Mr Beast has 418m. Asmongold has 3.4m and is not even in the top 10 streamers.

Every trans woman I know is struggling with work. We are forced out of the workplace and to places where we have to build our own platforms and dance for a largely cis audience, commodifying everything about ourselves we can so that we can make a living.

Then you get shit like the itch situation.

Because we are never in control of our own platforms completely, those platforms can always be taken away.

We are backed continually into smaller and smaller corners where we are forced to be louder just to try and make our voices heard - so we can prove we have value, so we can sell ourselves.

And some of you are treating this like we're to blame.

Like we're taking up too much space.

When the truth is that for far too many people I know the alternative is they shut up and die, and nobody notices because they just went quiet one day.

But maybe that's what you actually want.

In a vacuum, what's shown in children's films may not matter very much; in the context of the real world, when you have Disney and Pixar executives going 'ew [slurs]', it means your political climate is at the point where those in power would love to legislate queer people out of public life.
