There's a difference between "we don't log" and "we can't log."
One is a policy. The other is architecture.
This is already happening with basic tracking. Now add mandatory identity verification to the mix.
They won't just know what you clicked. They'll know your age, address, income bracket, and exactly how desperate you are for what they're selling.
They can see you're browsing from a wealthy neighborhood? Price goes up.
They know your employment history from LinkedIn? Adjusted accordingly.
They tracked your purchase patterns? Congrats, you just qualified for the "this person will pay more" tier.
Once sites know your real identity, things get really fun.
You know how airlines charge different prices based on your browsing history? Now imagine that but for EVERYTHING.
Same product, different price, all because they know exactly who you are.
The whole point of the internet was supposed to be open access to information. Now you need to prove you're a real person with real documents to post a meme.
This isn't about stopping bots. It's about control and data collection.
KYC requirements are killing the open web.
Every time a platform forces you to submit government ID just to exist online, they're building a surveillance database that would make the Stasi jealous.
And the worst part? They're doing it "for your safety."
I can't log people activities, I can't see websites people visit, even if someone REALLYYYYY tried, they wouldn't be able to pull that information out of me, simply because I can't have it.
When you actually look into the privacy policy you 'agreed' to.
We've come across some cursed stuff while developing Obscura. What's the weirdest thing you've seen in the wild? Here's ours:

Previously, our Android Alpha connection was fragile. It randomly dropped and broke on refresh or network changes.
That is fixed.
The Android Alpha now just works (for the most part).
You can try our Alpha here:

Hereβs something to consider with Discord alternatives: are they centralized or decentralized? If theyβre centralized, the same issue is going to happen.
It is much harder (basically impossible) to KYC a protocol that's decentralized, so use decentralized social media.
Obscura is finally on Android! π€©
Come test out our Android Alpha. We're bringing privacy thatβs more than a promise to your pocket.

This is called βpersonalized pricingβ and can depend on things like your device type, browsing history or even your location, estimated income, or how close you are to a competitorβs store.
Some companies track and profile you so they can change prices for the same product based on your browsing habits.
Fast, private, and cute just like the internet should be (ΛΆΛ α΅ ΛΛΆ)

This is another mass surveillance proposal worded differently.
Mass surveillance is bad no matter how it's phrased.
It's all so tiresome.
Article 5 amendments could force "high-risk" services to implement "all reasonable mitigation measures." The moment scanning becomes "reasonable," providers who refuse face sanctions.
"Voluntary" means platforms decide whether to scan, not you. If your chat app chooses to scan, every user gets surveilled.
Your only option is switching apps.
