the benefit of mirrorless cameras is really not primarily that they’re actually small but rather that they’re less fragile (no mirrors) and that you get an EVF instead of an optical viewfinder (which actually gives you a useful view of what you’re capturing)

I have an α7 III and it is mirrorless but also a full-frame so pretty much any lens you’re gonna put on that thing is FAT (even the α7c wouldn’t help here)

for actual portability you’d want at LEAST APS-C, preferably MFT or a straight-up compact
