Just got the photos from last week’s Tokyo Marathon. Was such fun.
Will do it again next year (for the 17th time. It’s a healthy addiction) 😅

Tokyo Tonight starts in an hour but if you want a warm up, you can watch my experience of the Tokyo Marathon today on this upload:

Thanks Michael 😆 The support along the course is what makes it so special!
Thank you 😊
Such a fun Tokyo Marathon - after 16 years of it I finally managed a sub-4h 😆 Love that race 😍
Thank you!
We managed to catch up on the course too 😀
@hikosaemon.bsky.social was so fast! 💨 Inspiring!
Tonight’s Tokyo run. Hadn’t initially intended to run as far as Tokyo Tower, but the music was so energizing that I just couldn’t stop.
If I’d known as a newborn baby that I’d end up living in Japan I would have begged my parents not to give me a middle name #japanesebanks
Tomorrow will be day 750 of my daily exercise commitment. I never thought I’d be able to keep it up this long, but it’s become such a core part of my life. Absolutely love it. Three more years to hit my goal of being the fittest I’ve ever been by fifty 💪
Under 7 weeks until my 16th Tokyo Marathon! Slowly ramping up the training distance. Looking forward to it!
For the first time ever I won’t be live streaming the whole thing - intrigued to see what it’s like if you just run it, without having to hold a camera and talk non-stop for 42km 🏃♂️💨
Some beautiful coastline around Fukuoka 😍
Had a fabulous time in Fukuoka with dear friends who we’ve not seen in years. Ran a 21km exploratory loop around the city one day, 18km along the coast on another. Very cold, but thanks to some new fabulous Under Armour stuff (birthday present to myself) I was nice and warm throughout 😊
A final run in perfect running temperatures. Thank you Ishigaki! Heading back to Tokyo later today.
Coastal run
Last night’s sunset in Okinawa
I’m looking forward to continuing this in 2025! 🤗
This is the longest I’ve ever been able to sustain a habit that requires daily commitment. I credit that to the flexibility of the goal - there’s so many ways to meet it, from running, to gym sessions - or when I’m not allowed to exercise (e.g. after having polyps removed), long walks.
Then, it also spurred me to join CrossFit, which I’ve been loving! Have learnt a lot from our fabulous coaches, and it’s great to be part of a community. Has also helped me realize how much more unrealized potential I have!
Whenever we’ve had video shoots with hotel stays outside of Tokyo, I’ve made a point of making the most of my usual early-morning starts (5:30am) and exploring the local area with a run, which helps me connect with the area and generally enriches the whole experience.
But more than the above, it’s the experiences it’s brought me. For example, thanks to this commitment, yesterday I had the most glorious 15km run along the coast of Ishigaki, and ended that with a lovely time watching the sunset from the beach with Satoko.
It’s also influenced my thinking towards food and drink. “If I’m making all this effort with exercise, I may as well get the food thing right too!” Using Gyroscope app to track it all, I increased my protein intake and generally made more conscious, healthy food choices. I also quit alcohol.
Of course there’s been the physical benefits, from setting multiple PBs in my running, to finally feeling comfortable with my body for the first time since I was a kid. That’s helped dispel the frustration I always felt with myself, and reduced stress levels.
On Dec 28th 2022, I unintentionally started a new daily habit of exercising at least 30 mins and burning at least 560 active kcal. In 2023 I missed my goal on 6 days; in 2024 I’ve only missed 5 days, and have averaged 73 mins daily exercise. It’s been transformative, with unexpected benefits. ☺️

AI has also had a profound impact on our business (as a creative agency) this past year. No doubt we’ll see even more drastic changes to how we work in 2025.
Having the ability to point my phone’s camera at a letter or page of text in Japanese (or English) and have it summarize that in seconds, and then write a reply based on my brief prompt, is mind blowing. 🤯
Satoko did exactly the same at almost exactly the same time that you posted this. Maybe there’s a connection… 😯 Luckily for her it was my coffee so she didn’t have to suffer from lukewarm coffee syndrome and I was just happy to have coffee of any temperature 😅
One of my favorite trees in Tokyo - this one on the left by Budokan.
In non-tree news, I really didn’t feel like going to the gym this morning, so I went to the gym 😝
Locations featured in the 2025 calendar include Yamanashi, Akita, Kyoto, Nara, Tokyo, Chiba, Ibaraki, Nagano, Kochi and Wakayama!
Beautiful Tokyo sunset tonight 😊
