That makes this an interesting piece of Japan-specific media that was previously unavailable since its initial distribution in Japan. It was never included on any home release or uploaded anywhere until now. So, we are glad to have been able to preserve it! Please enjoy!
The only info we could find about the existence of this film, let alone its exhibition, is that a theater in Hokkaido had a listing for it in 1990, along with Rocky V proper and other films surrounding it (some of which were, uh, let's just say "classy" titles).
New upload! A rare digest film for Rocky I-IV, produced in Japan to promote/act as a preview for Rocky V in 1990! Scanned from a 35mm print in 4K! There's BARELY any information about it, making it a special rarity never seen beyond its theatrical release. youtu.be/IQ9VLptEdd4

We'd like to thank them for their hard work and for taking the liberty of releasing this scan for us, as it's been a long time coming!
Before this release, only tiny, low quality raws from ancient VHS rips had been available. This one uses a 16mm print of the movie, presented in full HD for the first time ever. It's unfortunately full of scratches & defects, but it has far more detail than any previous version.
New release! The Orphan Fansubs team have put out an anime film previously only available on VHS, IT RAINED FIRE (1988), scanned by us from a 16mm print. It's based on the gut-wrenching tale of the Fukuoka firebombing in 1945. nyaa.si/view/2057163
In this hypothetical case I would say it doesnβt severely compromise the film itself, and is just the run-of-the-mill sort of stuff youβd expect to see on an uncleaned scan. Nothing too messed up that it breaks the thing.
Letβs say a film scan comes out unrestored. Itβs not in perfect shape, & towards the beginning thereβs a large amount of dirt, debris, even damage throughout. As long as itβs preserved in higher quality than before, how do you feel when watching? Does it bother you? Do you feel it adds to the charm?
Scrappy - Trailer Pusher (1935)

Thank YOU for your insightful article; if not for it, we wouldnβt even know where to start looking for information on the PSA and its history!

As mentioned, this comes from a 35mm print and was likely played as an ad in some theaters in 1964. We have scanned it in 4K and got it back to near-pristine condition, since it was very, very faded. Some restoration was also applied. Here is a comparison!
Happy Halloween! Here is a small treat for you all, a 1964 theatrical 35mm advert asking viewers to Save Free TV against evil, spooky cable & paid TV companies! Featured in the ad are a number of classic monsters, who all deserve a place, especially today! youtu.be/0paCHh3V1P4
Krazy Kat: Stabbed in the Circus (1934)
Also known as "The Trapese Artist", this is a silent, condensed version of this cartoon released by Columbia Pictures.
$15+ Members will get the uncropped, lossless version of this scan for the month of October only! patreon.com/kinekovideo
Thatβs what you get when you try to make something very small, it canβt be avoided. You either have to deal with that or stick with the good version despite the size.
