It's hilarious that "working class" now applies exclusively to the racist failsons of regional car dealership owners but every unemployed trans person is an "elite".

hypothesis to test:
a defining & common trait among those who don’t believe LLMs are intelligent/sentient/etc is that we *don’t* think primarily in words; we think in ideas, relationships, music, art, or some other abstract form.

Pocket friends, please prove/disprove

Sure β€” unless the tools of generation are out of reach, behind extractive paywalls, etc.

I’m looking at you, GPU/RAM/SSD shortages…

Both? Both.

Copyright of software source code isn’t dead letter law just yet. What would you do differently if you knew it would be?

I’ve met several folks concerned that F/OSS as a movement will die out because of this.

If LLMs result in more good quality, maintainable, code in the public domain, I’m not sure that would be terrible β€” but I doubt that our current trajectory will.

I believe this is the argument β€”

Even if the LLM’s output text cannot be copyrighted, practically speaking, this allows corporations to LLM-wash large volumes of GPL code into proprietary binaries. The intermediate step may be a copyright violation but no one will prove it.

Yup.

In the nazis' own writing, both the 1936 and the 2026 kinds, they admit that Hitler based his fascism and antisemitic Nuremberg laws, on Jim Crow laws. But how do you get a nation ready to ignore atrocities to 2% of the population?

Start with a 1% group

Have them declared "socially abnormal"

The second you leave this country for even a few days, you realize the place you call home is decaying at an almost exponential pace. The realization that you don't have to live like this is stark, and that nobody in power is taking tangible actions to fix it in your lifetime is even starker.

The timeline from gender-awakening-to-fascism is truly, shockingly, similar. I believe Weimar libertine parties peaked in the early 1920's ... barely 10 years later, and *that* happened.

When was the great trans awakening of our time? A little over 10 years ago. 😬

CW: transphobia.

See, this is why it can be painful to know too much history.🫀

This post implies that what is happening in Kansas is *similar* to what the nazis did.

But it's not just similar. It's *identical*.

In 1933, nazis revoked trans people's documents. Before 1938.

Paragraph 175 and 183.

As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.

Apple rolls out age-verification tools worldwide to comply with growing web of child safety laws | TechCrunch Apple complies with new age-assurance laws in the U.S. and abroad, including those that block users from downloading apps aimed at adults.

Apple is rolling out on-device age-verification, using data they largely already have access to, to let an app know if a user is over or under 18.

Adult websites have requested this information to help block underage visitors.

But Apple is refusing to share it.

Looks like Kansas gets added to the list of States where it is a crime to be trans in public, or to drive a vehicle while trans.

Special Saturday Triad: What I Saw at the Battle of Minneapolis The national media has moved on. Minnesota is still under siege.

"You now live in a country where volunteers deliver babies at home, in secret, off the books, because mothers fear that if they go to the hospital, they will be abducted by masked, armed agents of the state while giving birth. This is not a hypothetical."

Persona also appears to come with the the potential to flag you to the financial system and get you debanked.

Oops. Turns out Persona, Discord’s age-verification service, was secretly screening selfies against government watchlists AND accessible by the feds. It's backed by Peter Thiel.

The U.S. currently has more prisoners and a more sophisticated system of concentration camps than Nazi Germany had on the eve of World War II in 1939

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

StopICE Data Breach Sent Names And Locations of 100,000 Users to The US Government StopICE, the anti-ICE activist platform, suffered a major security breach exposing names, logins, phone numbers and GPS locations of over 100,000 users to US federal agencies.

Why do your organizing over Signal? So that you don't do your organizing on an app that hasn't been tested or reviewed, run by a guy who doesn't tell his users about data breaches and security problems.
