I think what’s offensive about AI from a craft aspect isn’t that they’re trying to replace devs and designers with LLMs. It’s that companies think so lowly of the work devs and designers do that they see AI as a 1:1 but cheaper and faster replacement

So far I’ve used it to build myself a small app for cataloging some old LPs, redesign the personal site, and fix another site.

I’m not doing artisan work. It’s not capable of that. It’s capable of doing bog standard code. Mediocre code. The stuff I would write as a lapsed dev turned designer.

Have I used LLMs to write code? Yes.

It’s OK code. It’s like using running a Markov chain on Stack Overflow. It still needs a human directing it, like a self-driving car.

It’s not great code. It’s patch and paint code. It looks more like some of the hackaroos I saw time-crunched devs pull

Given how the price of oil is rocketing up I’m not sure how much longer the Iran war, or at least the Strait of Hormuz closer, can go on before Trump’s poll numbers start scraping 30% approval. Up 35% in a week.
