like if i say i "dusted the shelf" or "had no oversight" you would not misunderstand me unless you were amelia bedelia

but if i say "the courts were sanctioned" it's like... ????

can we talk about how stupid the word "sanction" is for half a second

like obviously there are a ton of other contronyms like "dust" and "oversight"

but both of "sanction"'s meanings are used in similar situations, and many times you need way more context clues to understand which is applicable

this is actually the biggest change discord has released in years holy shit
