How long before he declares “victory” because he cannot deal with “stock market bad”?

In addition the usual suspects I’ve had vaccines for Yellow Fever, Rabies, Meningitis and Tick-borne encephalitis!

Totally agree. I think the places I’m going are a bit on the periphery of the major issues there, but obviously the closed airspace right now is affecting everyone.

I’ve gotten adult boosters for my childhood vaccines mostly as a result of planning travel to places with outbreaks. Did polio again 2024 before going to Kenya, and got an MMR booster last yer because of all the outbreaks here

(I’m also vaxxed against a bunch of weirder things due to travel)

It’s the least important thing in the current situation, but I have a trip planned to the region (Jordan/Egypt) this summer and I’m literally holding off cancelling because I’m pretty sure Trump is gonna get bored in two weeks and declare “victory”.

the real issue is that we don't care about creating more refugees unless and until they show up at our borders. Lebanon, a country of less than 6 million people, had to absorb a million refugees from Syria. This is going to be much worse, and all of the orgs that help used to be funded by USAID.

THIS IS WHY WE REQUIRE A CONGRESSIONAL VOTE TO DECLARE WAR! BECAUSE WE NEED SOME SORT OF DEMOCRATIC ACCOUNTABILITY FOR SUCH SERIOUS DECISIONS LIKE ‘SACRIFICING’ AMERICANS TO THE MAW OF WAR!

obviously the biggest part of the housing crisis is just a lack of sufficient housing, but downstream from that is a mismatch between the housing that *is* available and what people actually need because everyone is trying to make existing stock fit their different needs.

This works with 'luxury' housing too. you get the other NIMBY crowd that opposes any 'luxury' development, while failing to recognize that if you don't give wealthier people those housing options, they'll just 'take' them by buying an entire brownstone and reconverting it to a single family home.

also at least part of the housing crunch at various levels is the unavailability of cheap 'starter' apartments (aka studios) which results in recent graduates grouping together to rent 2-3 bedroom places, which then results in those apartments not being available for families.

Yeah. Not even sure what the CEO distinction means because I work for a F500 company and if our CEO doesn’t bring her ID badge she’s not getting to the office. We have to badge in at 3 separate places (building, elevator, floor) to get to work.

I’ll add to this that the first time I saw Casablanca was college in the early 90s, when it was one of three VHS tapes a dorm-mate owned, and so we would end up watching it any time no one wanted to drive to blockbuster to rent something. Probably watched it a dozen times that year.

Goebbels had imposed a "racial questionnaire" in
which everyone employed in the German film
industry had to declare their "race" to continue
to work. When Veidt was filling in the
questionnaire, he answered the question about
his Rasse (race) by writing Jude (Jew). 123] Veidt
was not Jewish, but his wife was, and Veidt
would neither renounce the woman he loved nor
collaborate with the regime as many others did.

Truly the greatest movie of all time. My favorite fun fact was that the actor who played major Strasser fled Germany with his Jewish wife rather than denounce her. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conrad_Veidt?wprov=sfti1#Emigration

fun is having to spend money on a special election AND a now-competitive primary in a state that was a foregone conclusion until five minutes ago.

I think the overall case has legs, but the claim here seems to be "I lost money because I believed Elon was trying to get out of the deal" when Elon was clearly trying to get out of the deal?

I worked for a small firm with only a 12 person summer class, but between this and somehow ending up at a DNC fundraiser at Alec Baldwin's house in the Hamptons (one member of our class previously worked for the DNC and wrangled us invites), we definitely had the most...interesting...summer.

One investor, Brian Belgrave, told the court he sold thousands of Twitter shares in July 2022 after concluding Musk would abandon the takeover. Belgrave later watched Musk complete the acquisition at $54.20 per share, a price significantly higher than the amount he had received when selling his holdings. "I got cheated," Belgrave said in testimony cited by Bloomberg.

I will say that this is kind of a bullshit argument. If you know thing one about the Delaware Chancery courts, it's that they're "biased" in favor of enforcing signed agreements. And while I think Musk is generally a con artist, it's not 'lying' to try and fail to get out of an agreement.

No! when I was a baby lawyer (summer associate, 1998) I got staffed onto what eventually turned into this case - we were in the Wien and Malkin offices putting together discovery files, and Leona came barging in and couldn't know we were there, so we were shuffled off to hide.

If he should be mad at anyone, it's his own lawyers who let him sign such a bad (for him) agreement, but I'm 99.99% certain he steamrolled over all of their advice because he wanted to make a big show of making the offer.

Dunks is like McDonalds - not the best, but stunningly consistent wherever you encounter it, which is a godsend when you are in an unfamiliar place and just want something familiar.
