The asymmetry of the value placed on human life is so striking. Israel has a goal to recover 40-year-old remains; to do so, it invades a sovereign country, and the lives of 26 Lebanese are an afterthought. Their names not even worth printing in the New York Times.

Britain had no affirmative role in the planning or execution of this operation. But that hasn’t protected our sovereign territory from attack, or insulated our economy from the aftershocks. We must learn the lessons of this episode."

False dichotomy and wishful thinking here from Sunak. The idea that UK involvement would have significantly changed Trump and Netanyahu's approach, or reduced the consequences for the UK, is laughable. More thoughtful than Johnson, but with the same simplistic vanity, the desire to feel in control.

British female track and field athletes are being asked to cover the cost of their own Β£185 sex tests if they want to compete internationally. Because curbing trans people's rights to participate in anything subjects everyone to intrusive scrutiny and here, hefty expense. This is not a 'them' issue.

'Starmerism' is being unbothered by such trivial concerns as 'is that even true, though?' or even follow-up questions like 'is this lie even a useful one for us to tell?'

Right now govt is making up an obviously false β€œsaving” to justify its imm, while ignoring the obviously true cost of that policy (treasury projections assume a level of net migration Home Sec opposes and which is unlikely to happen). And these ppl wonder why trust in politics is declining.

Make yourself feel slightly better, or at least differently depressed, about bleak global news by reminding yourself that Kemi Badenoch thinks the *only* reason Keir Starmer could possibly have had any concerns about this war is his electoral dependency on British Muslims.

but once you understand that ai tools are being built by fascists in service of attacks on humanity, whether or not they can generate useable code or do basic searches kind of stops being the main question

And you wonder why so many Home Office policies are successfully challenged in the courts...
