The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

Yknow, I never see anyone talk about this side effect of “personalization”—people are weird, and it turns out that it’s hard* to make massive amounts of advertising money catering to specific interests. So platforms have re-created a boring middle, shoved us all into it, and claim it’s “targeted.”
I used to get mad when people misused "decimated" to refer to things that weren't 1/10th destroyed, but I've given it some thought and now I've done a complete 360 on it
