Just heard that enquiries to various car companies in the UK about their pure electric models have increased 'tenfold' in the last week. Interesting not petrol hybrids, which obviously require petrol, all the time... because they're petrol powered vehicles.
Just an observation.

Fars News Agency, an outlet affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said on Thursday that Iran targeted Amazon and Microsoft facilities in recent drone strikes. Experts say Amazonβs facilities were likely targeted by Iran. Microsoft said it had not experienced any outages in the region. The strikes mark what is believed to be the worldβs first military attack against the US βhyperscalersβ that dominate the global cloud computing market. That could create a chilling effect on the UAE and Saudi Arabiaβs plans to spend billions of dollars on local AI infrastructure in the coming years, a crucial plank of the oil-rich statesβ efforts to diversify their economies. βThe Iranians view data centres as part of the conflict,β said Matt Pearl, a director at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think-tank.

An overwhelming majority of Jewish Israelis support Israelβs ongoing military campaign against Iran, and many believe it should continue until the fall of the Islamic Republic, according to a survey published by the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) on Wednesday. The poll found profound backing for Operation Roaring Lion among Jewish respondents, with 93 percent expressing support. However, backing was far lower among Arab citizens of Israel, at 26%, bringing overall backing across the full sample to 82%. Support for the campaign was high across the Jewish political spectrum, though it varied somewhat by ideological camp. Among Jewish respondents on the right, 97% support the operation, compared with 93% in the center and 76% on the left. The survey also indicated that many Jewish Israelis favor continuing the campaign beyond its stated military objectives. Respondents were asked whether the operation should end once Iranβs nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities are eliminated, or whether it should continue until both those military goals are achieved and the regime is overthrown. Among Jewish respondents, 57% said the operation should continue until both the military objectives and the political objective of regime change are achieved, while 36% said it should end once only the military goals are accomplished.

Gonna hear a lot about "energy security".
Sure we want energy security.
"What has changed compared to previous oil crises and oil price scares - even the 2021-22 one -is how affordable the clean energy solutions needed to replace oil and gas imports are"

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
As the tech industry increasingly turns to onsite fossil fuel power for data centers, what does this mean for nearby communities? A new study evaluates the impacts of fine particulate matter from a VA facility's onsite power system & finds $53Mβ$99M/yr in health damages.
1/3: Here's what wild about gas prices right now. The past two days have seen the largest increase in gas prices ($0.22/gallon) since 2005, making it one of the fastest increases ever. What's suprising about this is not only the magnitude, but the speed of the passthrough.
tech4gamers I have literally never heard of before today, so it did seem a bit suspicious
Over 40% of global shipping by volume exists to move fossil fuels from one place to another.
A huge share of the world's maritime infrastructure has been built around a system that is going to change dramatically as renewable energy and electrification displace fossil fuels.
Benchmark index plummets as much as 12.2 percent, eclipsing single-day plunge after 9/11 attacks in 2001.

Bar graph comparing emissions from Grok's fossil-fuelled data centres to avoided emissions from Tesla's products for the years 2023 and 2024.
Comparison of emissions from manufacturing xAI's chatbot responses (5,127,553 tonnes CO2e) versus all Tesla products (1,056,000 tonnes CO2e) with respective analyses.
*New short blog* - finally (with help) got around to getting a total estimate of Grok's climate pollution π«
- Once all fossil gas online, = to between half and all of Tesla's ANNUAL GLOBAL avoided emissions
- Currently, 5x the emissions of Tesla's total manufacturing

There's this common misconception that by the US attacking Venezuela, Iran and other countries, that the EU is safe and China is being weakened. Therefore the EU must support the US in its imperial endeavors.
Meanwhile, the greatest losers are Europe itself.
