A poster for James Brown & The Famous Flames performing live for the first time in the UK at the Granada in Walthamstow in the far reaches of East London on this day in 1966. Support acts included Barbara Lewis, the Mike Cotton Sound, The Marionettes and compere Keith Fordyce.

I actually shopped around another anniversary piece for today because it's 60 years since James Brown played his 1st UK gig... in Walthamstow.

I pitched a article using the very detailed account of the gig which Eddy Grant shared with me last year, but somehow I couldn't find anyone who wanted it

Fargo (1996) When this came out everyone said it was great but I was* seldom interested in anything less than 30 years old. Now it is, just watched and, yes, they were quite right.

* Debatable use of past tense

Was good when it went “on tour” few years back.
