Definitely. Stefany Shaheen doesn’t even have an issues page, so voters don’t even know where she stands on anything. As for Urrutia, he doesn’t support actual M4A. He supports a tiered system that allows private insurance to still exist and is branding it as M4A because it is a buzzword #NHPolitics

Each year the Strafford County Commissioners send the County Delegation an annual budget for consideration and approval. It aims to serve the needs of our community, providing important services to and ensuring the safety of our 135,000 fellow residents. We choose today to reject the 2026 budget. We are no longer confident this budget guarantees the security of everyone in our community. The Strafford County Department of Corrections estimates revenue of $9 million from the Department of Homeland Security to house detainees for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the County jail. These federal contracts are not new. For two decades the County and federal partners have worked together to house inmates. The situation shifted in recent months. Strafford County now holds more detainees than ever without criminal charges or conviction, often arrested under questionable circumstances. All over the country, human rights are violated. Human dignity is not respected. Strafford County is now party to this injustice. This revenue has also never been more significant to the County’s budget. It represents 10% of our estimated revenue for the year. It is nearly triple the peak revenue seen under the first Trump administration and a 28% increase from 2025. We use the money to help pay for critical services throughout the County. Our decision to reject this budget marks the beginning of a long and challenging discussion about what Strafford County will look like in the future, and how those services will be delivered going forward. We understand that change will not arrive immediately. Change is difficult. It requires compromise and sacrifice at many levels. The next several months will require more work from all of us as we move through the process in hopes of adjusting our revenue structure and relationship with the US government. But it is a necessary change. We must respect the dignity of our residents. And we must stand up when we see injustice – especially in our co…

Tonight the Strafford County, NH delegation voted to NOT approve our 2026 budget. I spent the past several weeks coordinating our efforts on that front.

We were successful tonight, but the work is just beginning.
