Saying a final goodbye to the summer racing season with the annual fancy dress edition of The Trunce. Second place in the league for the FSEN category this year despite illness hampering my efforts on a couple of occasions.

A reminder that The Barkley Marathons is not a race. It is a performance, a game, a story. A story with a very willing villain who comes back each year with new schemes to outwit the plucky heroes who dare take him on #bm100

Rebuilding post ultramarathon.

Excited to build the mileage back up and get stuck into shorter spring races!

No GPS devices are permitted for the Barkley. The watch Laz usually hands out to all the runners to use is a very basic watch that just tells the time.

and so, the strange piece of absurdist performance art that we all know and love, is once again underway #bm100

Did my first proper long run of the training block this morning. Good data to kick things off with, lots to build on.

Beautiful trail run out in Wharncliffe woods today. Wonderful to have this within the Sheffield city boundary.

A runner is up on a hill among heather. There are other hills in the background and the sky is cloudy. They are wearing a brightly coloured buff on their head and have their tongue stuck out at the camera.

Missing one workout won't ruin your training block. Pushing through one workout when you're experiencing an injury or feeling really rough may well break your training block.

Listen to your body. Recovery is a key part of training. Positive progress can't come from a body running on a deficit.

Runners! When it comes to improving, most of us just need to lock in the basics. Generally speaking, we're not professional athletes, so we just need consistent training with a bit of variation in our training paces tailored towards whatever our next goal race is.

Today, a four month training block for my next ultramarathon begins.

So much can go wrong on race day despite the work put in, so I will view this as another training block to stack on top of the ones that came before. The race at the end is not the only goal.
