Pen name. Writing and reviewing dark and challenging fiction; would write more if life weren't so dark and challenging. Also a magpie for fine stories and essays, a snob for coffee and tea (unless desperate), a wiki and map wanderer, and a cat steward.

so many peopleβs conceptions of genre fiction are so stunted and wrong. my conceptions are fine obviously
Historian here history first time as tragedy the second time as farce.
As far behind as I am on all the important work-life stuff, the creative juices are flowing again somewhat. I spun up the beginnings of a new story earlier this week, and somehow I nailed the opening paragraph on the second try.

The first issue of Scribe & Sigil is out! We are a new APA consisting of members of TriAPA which ran for 2.5 years. We tend to lean towards S&S but all aspects of speculative fiction are welcome. Now is a great time to contribute if youβre interested in making a zine!

I have this file of βinteresting random notes about medieval relics housed in Venice.β Just names, source location, sometimes another sentence. Every time I found a reference Iβd add it.
During my scholarly career so many additional projects emerged as a result of that file.

An image of a quotation from Marcus Aurelius' MEDITATIONS which reads: "52. You are not compelled to form an opinion about this matter before you, not to disturb your piece of mind at all. Things in themselves have no power to extort a verdict from you." Beneath the quote, diagonal pink type has been applied which reads; Marcus Aurelius has already released you from the obligation to have a take
I keep seeing so many people on social media obsessed with having a take, in times of crisis. Hell, I've done it too. But remember: You DON'T have to have one.
It's ok to say I have no idea. Also, see image:
Thanks, it felt like a good use of my time (please don't tell my phd supervisor)

1 Inquiry for New York Times Good afternoon, My name is [REDACTED] and l am a reporter for the New York Times. I am researching how much money the Palestinian diaspora community has sent to support Gazan families since the war in Gaza began. Does your team track this figure? I really appreciate it. With gratitude, [REDACTED]
Palestine Diaspora Movement Hello [REDACTED] We do not collaborate with The New York Times. Your email asks about money sent to Gazan families "since the war in Gaza began." Let us first correct the premise. This is not a war. It is a genocide. Calling it a war is part of the problem. It obscures the reality of a colonized people being massacred by a military machine backed by the United States and defended, sanitized, and rhetorically softened by institutions like yours. The New York Times has spent far too long parroting Zionist propaganda and laundering Israeli state narratives while Palestinians bury their dead. That kind of coverage does not merely misinform. It helps create the political climate in which Palestinian slaughter becomes explainable, defensible, and forgettable. So no, we will not be sharing any figures, internal data, or community information with a paper that has so thoroughly damaged its credibility on Palestine. Quite frankly, we would rather chew jeans than help The New York Times extract from our community while continuing to fail it. Do not contact us again for this purpose, The Palestine Diaspora Movement Team
