it really is unfortunately this simple - we elected the stupidest narcissists absolutely convinced that they could just go and "assert warfighter dominance" or whatever, those pussy liberals didn't wanna FIGHT!!!, and are just now shocked that the enemy gets a vote too

We're obsessed with "Having skin in the game" and we've created a class of people who don't give a shit about anything or anyone else. They're not part of society anymore, they exist outside of it. You don't have to be a genius to see the endgame of that

I think a lot of us millennials & older really take it for granted that we were the last of only a couple generations where there was an all-encompassing campaign to encourage literacy. Everyone used to agree upon it. There were commercials with your favorite celebrities just being like, "READ!"

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

From a Time magazine interview:
Asked if Americans should worry about Iran retaliating against Americans on U.S. soil, President Donald Trump responded, βI guess.β
Trump couldn't care less about Americans. To him, we are and always have been no-names, extras, the cost of doing business. He won't lose a minute of sleep over an American life, or over a thousand of them.

I'm sorry after JACKIE (2016), you cannot write a scene of Jackie feeling reflective while listening to "Camelot." You cannot! (I am catching up on TV π)

In recent years, Bilbao has quietly built a cycling network shaped by lessons from the Netherlands: calmed where it can be, protected where it must be, and always comfortable and connected.
The result? You can now pedal across the city on infrastructure made for everyoneβnot just the fit and brave.

I think we need to find our way back to this life rather than our current state of miserable human beings constantly jousting for power because theyβre completely empty on the inside.

They won't start with banning birth control. First they'll lie about it. Then dictate who can prescribe it, use it, fund it, in what forms, and for how long. Suddenly, your doctor won't call you back. I know this is what they'll do because it's what they're doing to transgender healthcare right now.

I mean this is the most church counselor way of putting it, but intelligence by itself is nearly worthless. wisdom and prudence and discernment are necessary qualities for intelligence to be useful. innumerable religious scriptures have tried to explain this but yr tech bros aren't big on books

I always enjoy getting to see a classic film for the 1st time. What I found more interesting than the love story between the leads, was the obvious love of Scots/Gael culture and the Gaelic language. The side characters were well written and felt as if they had real lives before and after.
