Free speech may be under threat in both the UK and the USA, but it's important to keep things in context. If you watch one video on the topic, make it this one, an excellent look at what's really happening on both sides of the pond - www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB3W...
Make sure your loved ones aren't operating on out of date priors about intermittent renewables: tell them batteries are now an economical supplement generating full time dispatchable power from them.
"How falling battery costs are igniting race for round-the-clock solar power"
Yeah I think those figures are a little pessimistic personally, based on what I've read lately, and as batteries proliferate through homes and businesses, peak demand will get less and less. We'll see though. I certainly would have no problem with them shutting off ChatGPT when it's cloudy.
Interesting, even that less optimistic paper seems to agree that over provisioning and grid upgrades can mitigate a lot of intermittency. So much wind curtailed in the UK rn due to the grid not lack of storage. I say let's try it, no need to retire the last fossil plant until we're sure.
Generally much less storage is required than people think if you actually look into it. Most times over provisioning is enough. Have a look at the presentations of Tony Seba where he talks about the clean energy u-curve. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM2R...
The technology is there and 100s of peer reviewed studies say the same. You use a combination of over provisioning and storage to mitigate intermittency. Here are here are 89 papers by 37 groups & >210 authors finding 100% renewable grids feasible worldwide w/o nuclear, CCUSP, H2 - t.co/BxtqRUaVbu
Nice to see them suing over something other than emulators tbh.
But sure, ID verification everywhere online makes us all safer right?
Pre-orders are now open for an awesome new controller mod and wireless dongle for the #Sega #Dreamcast. Details and links in the post. Definitely check this one out: retrorgb.com/bitlink-dc-w...
If this is low latency it's going to be awesome!
๐คฆโโ๏ธOf course weakening encryption is equal to spying on everyone. They aren't just going to weaken it for shits and giggles are they? The suggestion that these powers won't be used or abused for mass intelligence gathering and surveillance of people is preposterous. You can't be that naive, surely?
There's no way for the government to look at just one person at a time without weakening encryption for everyone, that's correct. What are you going to do, give a less secure vault to people you think might commit a crime in the future?
They're both analogies. Given the amount of lives people live and record on their devices too, seems a pretty apt one to me.
It's called an "analogy".
Again you simply don't understand how this works. Everyone's data is encrypted. There is no "back door" way in. If you add one, you have to add it to everyone's encrypted data, which makes everyone's data vulnerable to spying or simply theft (since you can't just add a back door for the "good" guys.
A back door in one persons account means a back door in /everyone's/ account, that's how it works. You can't just target bad guys, it doesn't work like that. The govt know this, but push ahead anyway.
and you think the govt should have a master key to everyone's house too? I mean doesn't mean they're going to use it!
"Look, just because I put a hidden camera in your house didn't mean I was going to use it, stop spreading conspiracy theories..." that's how you sound ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Again, that is not how encryption works. You can't only break encryption on "certain files" any more than you could only unlock "certain parts" of a safe. It's a draconian power to spy on anyone at any time the government chooses.
How's it gone in the past? Windows Media Center remember that? Not super optimistic to be honest but hey looking forward to seeing what they come up with. Hope this means Xbox BC for any Windows PC now too.
They want the ability to break Apple's encryption (and anyone elseโs that offered a similar service), you can't just break it for "certain files" that's not how it works, anyone with a basic understanding of encryption will tell you the same. This govt want draconian spying powers and that's a fact.
We already saw widespread abuse of RIPA powers by local councils, you'd be naive to trust any government, let alone the current one.
๐คฆโโ๏ธYou can't break encryption "just for law enforcement" that's not how it works.
Played through this one Christmas, it was a nice little game, graphically good and cosy without being too easy either. Great fit for Switch 2, I'd recommend it.
Andrew Neil lives in a mansion in France that he moved to using EU rules where he doesn't pay any tax in the UK.
And he spends his time moaning about the EU he chooses to live in and the poor state of the UK, which is due to tax dodgers like him.
Not spying on us? This government is demanding companies break encryption, leaving UK internet users exposed to hackers and data thieves just so UK govt can spy, absolutely awful. www.bbc.com/news/article...
