My take? The music we now call hair metal had a ton of female fans. The vocal range to sing along to it works for most of them. If you’re a dude it’s harder. In the 90s the style with more male fans is taken seriously & female fans are read as unserious & uncool.

what sticks out, even amidst a crowded field in 1988, is just how warm the whole thing comes across - not just the scratchy soul samples and classic breaks, but the sublime sensation of two dudes just sitting around shooting the shit. there’s also, of course, a rap about dancing like Steve Martin.
absolute banger after absolute banger, from back in the day when that meant something, dammit. there’s really not a weak link on the running time, if you can handle some late 80s STD humor. 🤷🏻♀️ there’s also one about about a dude failing a breathalyzer that sounds like a real anti drunk-driving PSA?

really tired of conversations about how we need to get people to spend more time offline that don't acknowledge that one of the reasons people ARE online is their access needs aren't being met in physical spaces. This is especially true for queer people and disabled people.
