Publishers continuing to add value, part 94.
I like to imagine that "Thank you for your attention to this matter" (those exact literal 8 words) would get my sensors going because of the Trump thing.
Not all academic papers are fluffy BS like nudge theory. A fake RCT recommending treatment X over treatment Y could also hurt people. (aka, "For every Stapel there's a Poldermans").
Yes, your website definitely makes me want to rent a car from you.
All good, my DNS-hack-for-UK-TV provider was having a glitch!
Hmmm. Could be something with my browser. It works OK from Firefox, not Chrome. *runs malware scanner*

Turns out there is such a thing as bad publicity.
France's finance and tax ministry has had a user data leak. Anyone with a French e-mail address, prepare for the mother of all spam campaigns from scammers claiming to want to help you "reset your password"...
Sure, but the discussion goes further than that. Some people seem to be letting go of a lot of pent-up dislike of all things American.
(Unless it's your Cherman accent)
Typo: "capitalism fill find a way."
Not going to take sides here (scroll up and down the quoted thread), but I just wanted to say that "Trump is the problem" versus "Trump is just the worst symptom so far" seems to be the number one source of disagreement in the otherwise somewhat homogeneous ideological world of this website.
Not me but my wife, who is not on here: Once stopped Mikhail Gorbachev from going on stage to give a speech.
Yes, I think that's fine, but it has to have a time limit. I can show you many papers that have had an EoC for years and the editors have no intention of changing that. My personal record among those I have reported is one from 2014.
Everyone pays. US consumers in cash, exporting countries in list jobs. Free trade actually turns out to be a good thing. The political right used to believe in it. It was one of the few solid reasons to vote for them.
I once took all 10 wickets in an innings.
(This requires vastly more luck than skill.)
Does any other industry have anything as useless as the scientific publishers' "Expression of Concern"?
Imagine Toyota issuing an EoC instead of a recall about a problem with the brakes on the 2025 RAV4. Or Kellogg's "expressing concern" when someone finds ground glass in a box of Coco Pops.
One of the biggest criticisms of May as PM was that she tried to be on top of too many briefs. 🙏
FT comments section this morning - saying what everyone else is thinking, right?
(I have one small nitpick, namely that I don't think "resignment" is a word. I'd have said "resignation". 🙏)
This is great, but I would generalise it to pretty much every proposed methodological reform across science. People don't want to change because they can get published as they are. It's like asking the makers of terrible processed food to add better ingredients.

Wow. Well, maybe they can update the damn website.
This "security updates" information is not on the State Department travel advisory page. (Presumably because it's fake news, but I suppose there's an outside chance they just forgot to update the website.) Here is the current state of U.S. travel advisories.
