Lastly, the readme has been updated, and the bootloader's cursor no longer has a white border (as is the case on a real Lisa).
A dropdown menu titled "Startup from" with three menu options; each option consists of an icon representing a disk, and text (to the right of each icon) specifying the name of the disk.
I've also added an option to access the "Startup from" menu via the service menu. In addition, I've updated the icon used for IndexedDB volumes.
A rectangular grid of white lines on a black background.
One of the options in the service menu is "Adjust Video" which is used to calibrate the screen. This makes sense on a real Lisa, of course, but isn't really that useful for LisaGUI unless you're running it on a CRT.
If you're *actually* using LisaGUI on a CRT, please send me a photo.
A dropdown menu titled "options" with the following menu options: "Start and reset display options," "Select startup volume," "Adjust video," and "Restart system"
Added a "service menu" accessed by holding the space bar at startup. The option to reset display scaling settings has been moved here.

New build out including the "startup from" menu, as well as what I think is a fix for a bug I encountered an hour ago.
LisaGUI’s "startup from" menu - a drop down menu with three different options listed vertically. Each option contains, from right to left, an icon representing the disk, and the text of the disk’s name.
This menu is now fully implemented. You will be able to access it by holding down the "s" key as soon as the system starts up.
The first option, "Install Diskette," is the same temporary volume created the first time you start LisaGUI (or if no other volumes are present).

The Lisa 1’s "startup from" menu, which lets a user select between disks at startup.
Most importantly, it doesn't *look* bad.
I'll incorporate keyboard shortcut functionality at a later date; it's not terribly important right now.
The Lisa 2’s "startup from" menu, which lets a user select between disks at startup. This is what LisaGUI’s menu is modeled after, except instead of displaying the names of the disks, keyboard shortcuts (Apple key + 1, apple key + 2, etc.) are displayed next to each icon.
Now, I realize that isn't accurate to the Lisa's firmware, which only displays the keyboard shortcut for each menu option.
Since each "disk" is just an IndexedDB database, and they will be displayed in an arbitrary order, a bunch of unlabeled menu items won't be useful.
LisaGUI’s "startup from" menu: A dropdown menu with several options. Each option has an icon representing either a floppy disk or a hard drive. To the right of each icon, the name of the disk it represents is listed.

Wrote a reusable state machine component for use in various places throughout LisaGUI. Can you believe I haven't been using one?
Boolean flags aren't your friends, kids. They invite the evil complexity demon into your house, and you don't want that guy walking around, knocking over your furniture
It's been a minute. A new build is out with some bug fixes. Some refactoring was involved... More updates are coming soon.
It's the kind of thing I can appreciate but only if I also have access to a clean version of the image. Otherwise I find myself in the unenviable position of having to clean up the image myself...
So not only does the Apple LiSA consider you a DOLT but so does the symbolics lisp machine, but with serifs #vintagecomputing #apple #lisp #retrocomputing

It won't let you reset your password? Also, SoundCloud sucks... no higher bitrate tracks :(

What liquid is in the jar? I have some key caps I need to clean myself
While I was at it, figured I might as well do a quick and dirty Win8 BSoD 404 page for the rest of my site
Half a lifetime ago I cut my thumb really badly on a heat sink and I still don't like to think about it
Thanks so much! I appreciated that you read through my post and provided great historical context as well as a nice explanation of the Lisa's UI oddities.
A really incredible article from The Register! Thanks for featuring my project! ❤️

NEW VIDEO OUT!

I used to think that my feelings on games looking more unique when I was a kid was mostly nostalgia. Turns out I was just right all along. This is a video about that.
