This was one of the most meaningful projects I've worked on recently. Dylan Lopez Contreras, a student at ELLIS Prep academy in the Bronx, was taken by ICE. Here's what he and his classmates want you to know...
The upside of this is we'll get appellate precedent explaining how unconstitutional these orders are.
βThe U.S. respectfully requests that it be allowed to withdraw the motion for voluntary dismissal that it filed yesterday. The DOJ inadvertently applied independent judgment on these appealsβ viability but the White House reminded us of our new role this morning after reading the papers. Our bad!
What a π€‘ show.
Is the @apnews.com allowed to attend?
What can you even say? These people deserve their inevitable humiliation and the nation deserves journalists with more self-respect.
What does the AP think of this?
And, all the way back last March, I wrote about the capitulation of Paul Weiss and how it was βdangerous for the rule of law and the nation.β
Thankfully, others β Perkins Coie, Jenner & Block, WilmerHale, and Susman Godfrey β did fight back.

Housing officials are warning New Yorkers about how to tell a real city inspector from someone who may be impersonating one amid βincreased immigration enforcement,β according to a recent PSA-style video from the agency.
Trump admin to start demanding social media account info from people applying for green cards, citizenship, work & travel authorizations, refugee status, etc.
A way to chill immigrant speech & give officials pretext for denying status to people critical of them reason.com/2026/02/23/t...
This is a type of ICE "ruse," and is a tactic the agency has deployed for decades.
In 2015, ICE went to my former client's house posing as cops and convinced his 16-year-old US citizen niece to call him home from work with a fake story (the "identity theft ruse" explained below), then arrested him.
βIn any normal administration this merger would be a non-starter. In this one, the corruption & capitulation of the Ellison family is the selling point," @notaaroncraig.bsky.social says about Paramount's takeover of Warner Bros, which would give the Trump-friendly Ellisons control of both CBS & CNN.
One family is about to control CBS, CNN, HBO, and TikTok. Theyβll buy Warner Brothers with $24 billion from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. To win over Trump, they canceled Colbert, blocked a 60 Minutes CECOT investigation, and blocked Talarico. Much more will follow. Block this rotten deal.
Student journalists are journalists. We stand with the reporters who investigate their schools and inform their communities on Student Press Freedom Day. (1/3)

UPDATE: Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal says that "ICE used a phony missing persons bulletin for a 5 year old girl," to lie and get into a Columbia residential building and detain a student.
"It is unconfirmed at this time whether they impersonated an officer to do so," he adds.
The long 2010s are finally over
February 26, 2026 Dear members of the Columbia community: This morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security entered a Columbia Residential building and detained a student. We are working to gather more information, working to reach the family, and providing legal support. Our understanding at this time is that the federal agents made misrepresentations to gain entry to the building to search for a "missing person." We are working to gather more details. It is important to reiterate that all law enforcement agents must have a judicial warrant or judicial subpoena to access non-public areas of the University, including
It is important to reiterate that all law enforcement agents must have a judicial warrant or judicial subpoena to access non-public areas of the University, including housing, classrooms, and areas requiring CUID swipe access. An administrative warrant is not sufficient. If law enforcement agents seek entry to non-public areas of the University, ask the agents to wait to enter any non-public areas until contacting Public Safety. Public Safety will contact the Office of the General Counsel to coordinate the University's response. Do not allow them to enter or accept service of a warrant or subpoena. We will update our community as additional information becomes available. Sincerely,

NEW: Guards have taken away crayons, colored pencils & paper during recent room searches at Dilley, according to detainees and others. After one inspection, the children just βcried and cried and cried,β a mother said. The facility denies the claims.
