The Pete Hegseth Exception Nearly a year after a national-security scandal erupted on my iPhone, no one in the Trump administration has faced consequences.

www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...
At 11:44 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, I was at a Safeway in the Chevy Chase neighborhood of Washington, D.C.—when the following alert came in over Signal from Hegseth: “TEAM UPDATE.” Hegseth promised that Yemen would be attacked within two hours.

Opinion | The Death Penalty Is Even More Horrifying Than You Think

Wow, I agree with the NYT Editorial Board: “the death penalty is both unavoidably flawed and unworthy of a decent society. As long it exists, it will disproportionately spare criminals with more resources and be used against people who are poor, mentally disabled or otherwise vulnerable.”

Opinion | America needs immigrants as much as they need liberty’s blessings When a waiter of 20 years is deported, suddenly immigration has a face and gains complexity.

George Will amplifies the Cato Institute report “Immigrants’ Recent Effects on Government Budgets: 1994-2023" in his column today. Plus someone he knows personally has been deported.

The Pentagon’s Lawyers Are Now Under Review A new Hegseth initiative could consolidate the ranks of JAGs, targeting those who act as legal guardrails.

»Some military lawyers pointed out that there are long-term risks to U.S. forces if leadership shows a disregard for the laws that govern behavior among the troops. The United States can’t expect its adversaries to uphold the laws of war, they noted, if it doesn’t do so itself.«

The Billion-Dollar AI Startup That Was Founded by Teenagers The team behind Aaru is attracting brands including McDonald’s and EY by betting AI bots can predict human behavior better than humans can.

"Fink and Koh met on the first day of freshman year at Lake Forest Academy in the Chicago suburbs. They bonded over cross-country running and a shared mischievous streak that involved trying to hack their school’s Wi-Fi to avoid submitting homework."

Well, there’s the problem, “top government officials”. 🥴 This administration is filled with fools who have no idea what they are doing. They are all functioning on greed, treachery and meth.

Also, I’m old too and I have learned that with age does come wisdom. Just b/c someone is older doesn’t mean they don’t care, the same as believing that b/c someone is younger that they care more. That’s absurd. If someone can do the job, is of sound mind and body and they get elected, 🤷🏻‍♀️

You’ve missed the point. A lot of us vote consistently, however, that is only roughly 50 ish percent of all eligible voters. Younger ppl don’t, in fact, vote consistently as a group but they are very loud about how they hate older candidates. If they want to change it, then there’s only one way.

War With Iran Puts Further Strain on America’s Pessimistic Farmers Nearly 75 percent of farmers surveyed before the war said the crop sector was in a recession. They face bigger hurdles this planting season.

Even before the war in Iran raised fertilizer & diesel costs, a majority of American farmers said they were "much worse off" or "somewhat worse off" than one year ago. Their biggest concern was the high cost of the essentials needed to plant their crops.

Opinion | I Went to Florida to See the 31-Year-Old Candidate Thrilling Gen Z. We’re in Trouble.

In December, the conservative Manhattan Institute found that 31 % of Republicans under 50 identify their own views as racist, and 25 % say their views are antisemitic. The same survey showed that a majority of Republican men under 50 think that the Holocaust either didn’t happen or was exaggerated.
