I’m launching a podcast this year: The Academic Verdict, Survivor Outcomes in Higher Ed. I want to collect stories not only of what happened, but how you survived and found justice.

Policies like Title IX, VI, & VII exist to protect us. But too often universities bury violations to protect themselves. That culture of cover-up & retaliation must end. Survivors deserve safety.

We know academia runs on insular, tightly knit circles. That makes speaking out harder & retaliation more common. Survivors are silenced, pushed out, or followed from one institution to the next.

Last year alone, there were 5,000+ news stories about academic abuse. Most are in the U.S., but the problem is global. I’m gathering this info in one place so no one can deny the scope anymore.

His hand around her throat, and his words, “one way or another, I’ll find you,” kept her silent. When faculty abusers control a student’s future, and Title IX prohibits anonymous reporting, a complaint becomes a direct line to retaliation. But for Cruse, retaliation meant being hunted.

Thank you! Honestly, I’m not a researcher or data scientist. I’m just a survivor who wanted an answer to a question: how big is the problem of post secondary abuse? Like other survivors, I ran into a massive barrier trying to find out from web searches. So I hope this tool is easier for survivors.

Yes. I know personally, I was involved in several 'investigations' in universities in which I and others filed complaints that are now conveniently missing from FOIA records requests. This is illegal... but if the files are deleted before being requested, how can anyone prove it?

Wow. I love that. I also love the argument that if #metoo named victims, we need lists that name perps. On my end, I'm building #TheUList or u's that trend in the news over allegations.

The more prestigious the school, the harder it is to hold them accountable.
