we need to talk about that Ring Super Bowl ad
A pile of newspapers and zines from Gazetteer SF, MUBI, A24, The Onion, and 404 Media
Print isn't dead! @sf.gazetteer.co @404media.co @theonion.com A24, MUBI
Absolutely! That was my main motivation to build it in the first place, to get regular reminders of that serene alien landscape, and of all the science and brilliant people involved in making those images possible. I'm so glad others find it joyful/educational/peaceful/awe-inspiring too!

FYI, there's a couple of great articles on the meaning/purpose of those calibration targets linked in this thread

Due to the high volume, the solution has to work as part of an automated script, and that's where it becomes complicated to give descriptions that are guaranteed to be accurate every time.
In lieu of that, I opted to stick to the generic alt text since I can't manually verify accuracy.
Hey, I definitely understand and appreciate the request! The trouble I've had is finding a solution that works at the scale of images that can appear in this feed.
The raw images themselves don't have context, so it's hard to come up with useful descriptions that are consistently accurate.
Very excited for the SFFILM screening on Wednesday!! π
Such disappointment... π
This is exactly why I immediately grabbed a ticket when they went on sale

New merch for The Bear Season 4 that is just really basic text on items that looks like it may have been mocked up by a 5 year old
Who is in charge of merch design at the FX Shop, this is such uninspired bullshit
Who else has a sudden urge to play Halo?
So are the people that slow roll the stop-and-go traffic on a highway and end up smoothing out the ripples, effectively Alzheimer's of the highway? π

A rat (or a person in a rat costume, who could say) speaks at a city council meeting. In the background a security guard looks too old for this shit.
Someone put up a tile mosaic on a public building in Seattle showing a rat looking to the heavens, with the title βHot Rat Summer.β The city painted over it. So of course, the rat showed up at a city council meeting to protest
Feels like the studio system is truly broken when even Rob Delaney and Bill Hader (who mentioned this on the A24 podcast) are having trouble getting their own movies made. We need more A24s and Neons willing to embrace the unconventional and the exciting. These should be easy greenlights!
ripping the LaserDisc for Beastmaster II and it contains one of my favorite bits of distracting dubbing in history
All I see here is top notch ball security, elite contact balance, a willingness to grind out tough yards btwn the tackles, and surprising burst after he finds daylight

Sonyβs Japanese Minidisc ads with Jamiroquai are straight up iconic
Photo taken at the Nikka Whisky Distillery in Yoichi, Japan showing the distillery sign, a couple of cherry blossom trees, and some snow-capped mountains in the distance behind green trees.
Whisky, cherry blossoms, and the mountains. Plus getting here via a train right along the sea. Life is good in Yoichi, Japan π

This is a nice thread about The Onion. Thank you for saying nice things, and I can confirm the premise: If you pay your staff well, and you allow them to do what they're great at, it works better than chasing algorithms. The art is better, the truth is found easier, andβbonus!βthe revenue is better.
Please do share details if you get that working, that would be an absolute dream setup!
Hey @rocketlabusa.com, let's get Sir Peter Beck over here on bsky too π I appreciate the increase in messaging parity from the main account!
