Photo of a brick built railway bridge over the Birmingham & Worcester Canal at Worcester. There is a distinctive round hole above a narrow arch accommodating aroadway, and a large arch over the canal to the right.
My first ride of the year yesterday was a circular #cycle along the Droitwich #Canal, River Severn to Worcester, and back up the B&W Canal. 20 miles of excellent towpaths, with a mudbath last 2 miles

It's always nice when you are cycling along and the traffic is stationary on the so-called faster route #cycling #canals #UKCanals

Pencil style drawing of Granary Wharf, Leeds, where the Leeds & Liverpool Canal meets the River Aire. There is a deep lock, surrounded by modern steel and glass buildings to the right, and older stone buildings to the left. There is the arm of a lock gate in the foreground.
I've just completed this drawing of Granary Wharf, the end of my ride from Skipton into Leeds. The lock drops the #canal onto the River Aire. This year I will complete the trans-Pennine circle by cycling from this point to Cooper Bridge, where the Huddersfield Broad joins the Aire & Calder

You can just about make out the Tewitfield Locks (aka Northern Reaches Locks) driving along the M6 north of Lancaster. Unfortunately they are no longer in use, and blocked off by the motorway at the top end. Progress to Kendal, on a bike or by foot, is somewhat hindered #cycling #Canals #UKCanals

A milepost, with "Shardlow 46 miles" on one side and "Preston Brook 46 miles" on the other, and there's a small plaque at the bottom which has
R&D (I think)
Stone
1819
Behind the milepost is a beautifully neat old brick wall with curved top stones, a bush growing politely over it on one side, and behind that there's a slated roof and chimney of a cottage visible.
Here's my contribution, from my journey along the Trent & Mersey canal in 2023. I thought it fitting to mark the half-way point with this photo, which I took while navigating the lock.

People seem to be posting mileposts today, so here's one, about half way along the Leeds & Liverpool #Canal #cycling #UKCanals

The rolling railway bridge on the short Ulverston Canal is (I think) unique. It drew back to allow ships to pass along the sadly now defunct canal #Canals #UKCanals #Cycling

I love Hebden Bridge. Two of my favourite rides start and end there. The Vocation Brewery Tap is excellent. And the station features these fabulous wooden signs. #cycling #UKCanals #Canals

OK so it's a railway, not a canal. Bitton Station is at one end of the Avon Valley Railway. It's where I joined the cycleway to Bath, as there is only a footpath along the Avon from that point onwards. Nice perspective! #cycling #canals #UKCanals
