How would you define work-life balance?

Took off my reading glasses & could NOT see computer screen. Freaked out about bad up close vision. I guess my eyes must be really really tired. And then remembered that 20 minutes prior I took out my contacts and was not wearing reading glasses, just my regular glasses. For my 20/220 vision!
Why does the SPSS interface think it is still the 90's?

Itβs definitely spring at UConn HDFS!
Ha! No I think I just finally came to terms of how itβs like 90% of my job at this point.
Still time to apply! This role could transition to a developmental psychology PhD spot w/ my lab 2026. (I do not offer clinical psych, but PINE Lab RAs have 100% success rate w/ clinical programs)

Someone just told me to have a good weekend and I think that is evidence of the burnout we are all feeling (I confess I did look at my calendar hopefully).
Would you like free feedback on your academic CV? My grad seminar is looking for a few academic CVs to workshop. Must be in HDFS, Dev Psych, or adjacent fields. If chosen, I will also provide my own detailed feedback to you. Please reply or DM me if interested.

Wednesday is the new Thursday, but unfortunately, Thursday is not the new Friday.

Yes. I got Ph.D. In Dev psych in 98 and that is what we read and learned. People still debate which is more important for certain things but few would say itβs absolutely one or the other only.
Post a pic you took with no context to bring some zen to the timeline
Thanks! We did find it but are not sure about proper citations for these.
We haven't responded yet, and we may send the paper elsewhere, but we are trying to figure out how to accurate cite these sources moving forward since the goal of citation is to provide others with information to be able to find the source.
We have a paper that was returned because the citations were incorrect - because we cited CDC data that are no longer on the website. How are others handling this? Are you using extracted/archived data? How are you citing it?

And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.
Want to feel old? Drew Barrymore just turned 50.
This year we are going with truth in advertising with a cold snow covered February day. We promise CT in March through November is so lovely!
One of my favorite days of the year is welcoming our prospective grad students to the @uconn.bsky.social HDFS department!
Exactly one year later and feel the same. Except tomorrow is Friday after a long week in a long month in an already long year.
1st, Learning & Memory: "Retrieval is a potent learning event." Bob Bjork repeated it so much it became a joke - one we kept retrieving to make the joke. Not my research , but it affects how I teach, how I advise students to learn, and how I try to learn myself. 2/2

What is one thing you learned in grad school that you still remember today? Do you use it in research, teaching, life?
I'll go first 1/2

Good point. I ended up answering the one question I comfortably could, and telling them I wasn't comfortable answering those questions to a middle schooler I didn't know personally, but if they shared their teacher's email address I could contact them. I never heard back.

Me: Iβm glad Iβm not in charge of anything right now where people are expecting answers and reassurance from me when itβs hard enough to keep it together myself.
Also me: oh right.
