Hegseth needs to stand trial after this as a war criminal. Between this attack and the girls' school, there's no ambiguity. He is responsible for mass murder and must be held accountable.

Man, all the new mechanics and stuff are super cool. This is the closest I've managed to get to the TotK feeling in a game.

Tokyo peeps: A friend of mine and her husband arrive at Haneda at 2 a.m. and are looking for a place to hang out in Tokyo until their connecting flight the following afternoon.

Do you have any ideas about fun or interesting places spend the wee hours in Tokyo?

So cool to have new cards, new bosses, new events. Haven't been this excited about a game in a while. If you buy on Steam there's a bundle with the first game for 300 yen more. This might be the first game I've tripled up. PS5, iOS, and now Steam. Finished the first tower and excited for more later.

On NJ Transit on the way home and the train just died.

Just another day/reminder of how β€œthe richest and most powerful nation in the world” cannot do mass transit.

We can afford a war and build concentration camps, but not mass transit.

Fun fact: LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, Moussa Diabate & Miles Bridges have a +30.7 net rating in their minutes together this season.

That's on pace to be the highest net rating by any five-man lineup with 250+ minutes in 19 seasons of lineup data.

When Persistence Pays Off: On Translating and Publishing the Work of Kanako Nishi This is one of those publishing stories where the authorβ€”and in this case the translator tooβ€”waited for years, certain that their work deserved a wider audience, and was forced to stand patiently b…

So glad to see Kanako Nishi published in English, translated by Allison Markin Powell, at long last. Do read Sakura, it’s wonderful - I couldn’t put it down!

PSA: Adidas Japan has a sale now. 30% off a second pair of shoes if you buy two. I was due for a refresh of both my walking and running shoes, and they have larger sizes available online that aren't always in the stores. Highly recommend if you know your size well.

I'm not sure, but it's gotta be the same. They didn't seem to make a big deal with ads or anything highlighting the change? Not that I've been out and about to know.

My guess is that someone in marketing finally convinced the team it would be good to differentiate from Super Dry.

Eh. Again, ~90% of the reason it's all politics all the time is <gestures at the daily onslaught of lawless authoritarianism>. This is not a Bluesky problem. It's a society/polity problem. We will all go back to sh*tposting about TV, cocktails, sports, music, food, & puppies in the after-times.

The translator chose to keep it inline but denote it with dashes to maintain the Japanese paragraph structure. Not sure what I would have done, but it's interesting since this year's JLPP story has very similar techniques and POV choices.

01.03.2026 22:14 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

This was more emphasis to me that Japanese writers think of POV very differently than writers in English. Or perhaps the translation wasn't successful in places. I did feel like dialogue formatting was awkward in English. There's lots of direct quotation that's inline rather than quoted.

Kind of a nutty line from a 1958 Japan travel guide:

"Japan is now mass-producing very good small cars (Nissan Motor Company, Toyota Motor Company, etc.) suitable for the country's narrow roads and you may wish to buy one and ultimately bring it home as a second car."
