“MAGA’s fundamental shared quality is a total lack of theory of mind for other people” is a theory that keeps getting validated by reality - look at almost every decision they’ve made in the war with Iran, and how they seem constantly surprised by the unanticipated actions of other parties.

Interactive resources
With the power of OJS and Quarto, I’ve created a few interactive websites to illustrate trickier statistical concepts when teaching. Check them out (and adapt and copy as much as you want!)
With links to three different websites (accessible at the main link in the post)
Finally got around to adding fancy links to my different interactive teaching websites for showing things like p-hacking, p-value interpretations, and (still-in-draft-form) DAGs at www.andrewheiss.com/teaching/ #rstats #QuartoPub #statsky

I know I keep saying this, but I get a perverse sense of relief when things like this happen due to the war because oh hey, reality still exists. It’s not all just content. Cause and effect are still a thing. You haven’t totally lost your fragile grip on sanity.

So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and they’re simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was “your piano is too close to the fireplace, you’ll dry it out” and if that’s not the internet in a nutshell I don’t know what is.

A lot of you are saying pretty negative stuff about Markwayne but I respect the man for writing Tom Sawyer

I am not arguing this is the worst or bloodiest war we’ve ever had. I’m very narrowly stating that it’s the worst run

I dunno. What are we doing here? What are any of us doing here? We’re shitposting about pee being stored in the balls while mothers and fathers are burying their children because our hamburgers got fifty cents more expensive.

I fall back on being a smarmy asshole as a defensive mechanism, but I really did spend a good chunk of last night heaving over the toilet almost throwing up on the verge of tears after reading about this and then checking CNN and the front page story was about the six American soldiers killed.

Statistical Methods in Public Policy Research
This was a recent one-document article with no R code and I jumped between Positron (git commits) and Typora (writing/editing) constantly

Screenshot of a Quarto book open in Positron
Screenshot of one of the chapters open in Typora
Yeah, it's set up as a Quarto book with parts and chapters (similar to bookdown), so I can manage version control with git, etc., and I can jump into Typora as needed for long-form writing/editing. Even if this weren't a code-heavy document, I'd do the same thing bc citations, version control, etc

I’m using it for a quarto book, but mostly managing the individual files in positron, not with typora’s built-in project/folder manager thing, and it’s great! Really nice to have macOS-level spellchecking and autocorrect

Yes to typora, the only one of the many different (and good!) macOS markdown editors that supports pandoc-flavored (and thus Quarto flavored) markdown!

So the Pope and a Mormon Apostle are warning adherents of the threat of Generative AI slop essentially enslaving them, and yet Christian Nationalists running this country are eating it up like hungry hogs... Got it
