Folks feeling pretty good after the first day of arguments in the Prairieland trial! The prosecution's opening arguments were long and meandering. Importantly, they spent a lot of time talking about political beliefs and first amendment activities as evidence of their fantastical conspiracy.

Last week's phone zap WORKED! The 9 defendants @ Tarrant County Jail got tablets for communication & reading, & were moved to cells w/ working showers. But they're still suffering horrible treatment @ Tarrant, where they were moved Feb 9 for federal trial.
Ms. Clayton, the only Black woman among the defense lawyers, did nothing wrong in zealously advocating for her client. Now the judge is threatening to hold Ms. Clayton in contempt.
Why? Because attorney MarQuetta Clayton was wearing a t-shirt featuring civil rights leaders of the past. Judge Pitman also took issue with Ms. Clayton’s voir dire questions, which reasonably probed jurors’ feelings about protest.
But then, as soon as the first defense attorney started asking questions to the prospective jurors, presiding Judge Mark Pittman declared a mistrial.
