Proud that @wikiportraits.org was onsite at 2:30 am to get photos of 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado in her first public appearance in almost a year — at after a harrowing journey from Venezuela on wooden boat (where they had to coordinate with the US military not to destroy it).
They can, but the photos need to be freely licensed for anyone to use. So there can be some barriers between photo copyright, PR team, etc. Celebs have released photos before, but a bit hard to scale (we're exploring how to!)
@berlination.bsky.social is amazing! We help him & other volunteer wiki photographers get credentials for cool events to take photos for wiki. This year we've done Sundance, Eurovision, MLS games, Essence Fest, and much more. And we're always expanding our network!

And if someone has an event in mind that we haven't covered before, but would want to (we'd love to cover more indigenious events, for example), then some costs may be covered in those cases as well.
In some cases, yes! Many of our photographers start with covering local events, and then can get sent to the bigger events we want to cover where we need a lot of hands -- and for those, we often cover lodging (and more depending on budget).
Attention Bryan fans!! There's a group of Wikipedians called WikiPortraits that takes portraits of public figures and navigates press passes. Volunteer with them if you want to support more Bryans or be your own Bryan! website is wikiportraits.org and the account to follow is @wikiportraits.org
If you're in need of positive and rather wholesome news, there's a high school teacher named Bryan who took a ton of freely licensed celebrity headshots at the New York Film Festival last month for Wikipedia, and I truly can't believe how drastic the upgrade is for some articles (thread)
Yes! We (WikiPortraits) help get Bryan and other wiki photographers credentialed at events like NYFF, TIFF, Nobel Prizes, even Eurovision this year. We're always looking to grow our community!
