I legitimately canβt come up with either an explanation or just a half-baked joke because it makes no sense. Supposedly Liias was worried that his Mukilteo ferry would be undermined by a passenger-only ferry district but heβs not bothered to say how gutting POF chances is good for us.

If you're so freaked out that people will choose to walk on to local ferries at such a rate that it proverbially sinks WSF...that's a problem for you to take up with WSF, not local agencies.

It's genuinely frustrating that for so many legislators, whether or not public transit can exist depends *entirely* on whether or not they or some mythical group of people they dream up will be able to drive cars to/onto that service.
I'm shocked ST doesn't have an "auto train" RCW requirement.

No he's meaning that it was "made for" (as in, specifically targeted at) me because I remember when the local baseball team played in "Arlington Stadium" and am also a gigantic public transit nerd (of which Arlington has none).

That. is. hilarious.
I'm sure the Mayor of Arlington is having a day right now. Maybe FIFA only recognizes municipalities that have public transit...?

Even after moving to Seattle, I would go to Rangers games at Safeco and cheer from the 3rd base side. But in the last ~10 years? And especially the last 6? Pound sand, I'm done. I'd rather wear an Expos hat (my NL team as a kid) and buy Mariners Pride hats instead...and do.

Crap like this is why I don't have a single bit of Rangers-branded memorabilia in my house. The Rangers were the team my dad and granddad taught me baseball with, the ones I burned the backs of my legs on metal bleachers at Arlington Stadium, and who I suffered through the 2000s and bankruptcy.

It's why I'm increasingly into hosting my own stuff for me and the people around me. Email is kind of a "bad example" since the other party/parties will always have a copy, at least we can build systems for each other that can connect on our own terms.

I rode the 67 to Roosevelt today and watched three people tap payment cards (instead of ORCA) to pay and yes very much this.
If we're going* to have fares, they should be fast, easy, and convenient before we do anything burdensome (like fare gates).
* Separate debate.

I'm of the mind that it is important to know your threat model, or "who/what are you guarding against". Secure services have their uses but determining your threat model *and* what you do about it is really hard, even for experienced professionals, so it's rough when tools like PM go this way.

I've been watching more drivers make illegal *left* turns on red arrows. It's basically a given at this point that car drivers do not give a crap, even if they kill someone in the process.

That's interesting, I wonder if something happened as the evening went on. I was at Northgate for a few trips and Metro/CT/ST had both a lot of signs and a lot of employees out and about.

I figure at this point I should have a vague understanding of how The Tools(tm) work so I've been messing with generating and then deploying basic CRUD web apps. I've learned three things:
The bot *loves* modules
NextJS is very trendy
Even Claude can't write a Dockerfile

Picture of a King County Metro bus serving Lynnwood City Center bay D3
Picture of three Metro buses lined up at Northgate, in one each of green, teal, and dark blue
Picture of a Metro bus at the layover area in Lynnwood
Sometimes you just gotta meet up with friends at night and ride the first Metro bus to serve Lynnwood TC in years. Link replacement buses are running from 10pm tonight & tomorrow if you missed last nightβs fun!
(Good job on the bus shuttles. Metro and CT really nail planned disruptions.)

Not sure what the hell is going on with the Mosquito Fleet Act and amendments to it right now but it sure feels like someone is trying to torpedo this bill...and maybe passenger-only ferries in Puget Sound in general.
Anyone following it who can talk me off the pier?

I'd be fine with it, too. The government already knows who I am and they're finding out I'm working for this company anyway.
What's annoying is in other countries it'd be "need to prove who you are? go to the post office" but here we require handing over more data to private brokers.

...instead of a mix of business types, with some types (corner stores in particular) being lacking. I'm curious if this really is the case and, if so, why. If it is the case--not a given--is it as simple as "new building is expensive so landlord charge $$$$"? 3/end

I'm not *opposed* to requiring ground floor retail and this is probably just confirmation / observation bias on my part which is why I'm looking for numbers. But a lot of the spaces I remember seeing are either vacant or are high margin businesses like exercise studios and places to buy alcohol 2/

Hey people smarter than me (all of you who follow me), a data question: is there data on the regional vacancy rate on the ground floor retail in newer apartment buildings? And is there data on what business types are in those spaces?
I ask because it *feels* like these spaces are underused. 1/

Going to the suburbs is wild. Nobody's "sorry" about "no public restrooms" and you can get groceries without being stared down by an armed guard. Seems like a good idea.
Of course, you'll probably be a paint smear trying to cross a seven-lane stroad so, uh, tradeoffs I guess.
