I legitimately can’t come up with either an explanation or just a half-baked joke because it makes no sense. Supposedly Liias was worried that his Mukilteo ferry would be undermined by a passenger-only ferry district but he’s not bothered to say how gutting POF chances is good for us.
If you're so freaked out that people will choose to walk on to local ferries at such a rate that it proverbially sinks WSF...that's a problem for you to take up with WSF, not local agencies.
It's genuinely frustrating that for so many legislators, whether or not public transit can exist depends *entirely* on whether or not they or some mythical group of people they dream up will be able to drive cars to/onto that service.

Even after moving to Seattle, I would go to Rangers games at Safeco and cheer from the 3rd base side. But in the last ~10 years? And especially the last 6? Pound sand, I'm done. I'd rather wear an Expos hat (my NL team as a kid) and buy Mariners Pride hats instead...and do.
Crap like this is why I don't have a single bit of Rangers-branded memorabilia in my house. The Rangers were the team my dad and granddad taught me baseball with, the ones I burned the backs of my legs on metal bleachers at Arlington Stadium, and who I suffered through the 2000s and bankruptcy.

I'm not *opposed* to requiring ground floor retail and this is probably just confirmation / observation bias on my part which is why I'm looking for numbers. But a lot of the spaces I remember seeing are either vacant or are high margin businesses like exercise studios and places to buy alcohol 2/
Hey people smarter than me (all of you who follow me), a data question: is there data on the regional vacancy rate on the ground floor retail in newer apartment buildings? And is there data on what business types are in those spaces?
I ask because it *feels* like these spaces are underused. 1/
Going to the suburbs is wild. Nobody's "sorry" about "no public restrooms" and you can get groceries without being stared down by an armed guard. Seems like a good idea.
Of course, you'll probably be a paint smear trying to cross a seven-lane stroad so, uh, tradeoffs I guess.
