5/ And on the Strait of Hormuz, they had NO PLAN. I can't go into more detail about how Iran gums up the Strait, but suffice it say, right now, they don't know how to get it safely back open.

Which is unforgiveable, because this part of the disaster was 100% foreseeable.

It’s a big question which has been puzzling and dividing scientists for years. A new paper says it has the answer, and it’s not good news.

Global warming has accelerated β€œsignificantly” over the past 10 years, meaning the world may barrel through crucial global warming limits faster than expected, according to the study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

"The UK’s most significant institution dedicated to the study of the Holocaust, has announced the appointment of two co-directors.

Christine Schmidt and Barbara Warnock have been named as the institution’s new leadership, the first women to take the helm at the library in its near 100-year history"

This very straight news piece buried deep within the FT never uses words like corruption or insider dealing but every detail is quietly devastating. Why is the FT virtually alone in the UK media in covering this important story?

Bit of a call out to fellow historians!

Anyone with suitable interest/expertise available on Monday and up for recording a podcast with me on "Rat Lines" - the post-war efforts to help Nazi's escape to South America and elsewhere?

Unfortunately my planned guest had to drop out #skystorians

Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.

This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.

44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.

And yes - of course there are more serious aspects to this - loss of life, catastrophic environmental effects, political turmoil.

But these constant shocks to everyday lives and planning are not nothing either.

If your energy needs are met from solar, wind, tidal, geothermal and nuclear sources, backed by copious battery storage, you're far less vulnerable to sudden crazy oil and gas price spikes.

Trump's war on Iran is the best possible ad for accelerating the greening of the economy.
