Tubes and Code .studio | Playable Guitar Gear Articles are here and They're a Blast!
Explore guitar tones while you read. Tubes & Code articles now include playable Neural Amp Modeler sims so you can try the sounds discussed in the browser.
TONE3000βs new live input feature makes playable guitar articles a thing! and they make that tech open-source.
I'm experimenting with that idea on my Tubes & Code site. Wrote a quick article about what I'm doing, with some examples to fun articles on T3K's blog

Screenshot of the TubesAndCode.studio website showing the site's customized version of the TONE3000 web player, letting users listen to guitar amp captures with pre-recorded DIs, plus a new "Play" tab.
You can play guitar (and bass) through my website now! Using a (lightly) custom version of T3K's open-source NAM player!
Rigged it up so I can do "playable articles" where there will be associated amp models and/or IRs to connect it to your own playing instantly

Happy Birthday to @davidgilmour.com
Like so many musicians of my generation, the music of Pink Floyd touched my life in a profound way and helped shape the way I hear and feel music.

Tubes and Code .studio | Archetype John Mayer X Review: can Neural DSP Deliver Superior Tone and Playability?
A hands-on review of Archetype: John Mayer X by Neural DSP, focusing on playability, presets, mix performance, and whether itβs worth $200.
I updated a couple of my existing articles to show kind of what I mean by "playable articles."
For example, one of the amps in John Mayer's Archetype plugin is a Dumble. Now you can load in a free Dumble capture at the end for comparison/baseline purposes.

Noise-Only Challenge: Lost + Found Creates a Horror Soundtrack
YouTube video by Bay Mud
Had fun seeing what I could make with nothing but white noise fed into the Chase Bliss Lost + Found pedal. A new series, maybe?

Plug in your guitar or bass and play through 275K tones directly in your browser. Now in beta.
speak of the devil, they actually just introduced live input on the T3K website, letting you play guitar to any of their captures in your browser! Pretty amazing actually

I put the pedals in the alt text but forgot my second overdrive: Warm Audio Tube Squealer
I like that the pedal has a switch to toggle between buffered bypass and true bypass... it actually came in handy here (running buffered now b/c I don't have a buffer after it).

A pedalboard: Tuner > DigiTech Drop > Donner noise gate > Xotic SP Compressor > Deciduous Devices Wisteria Overdrive > Sonicake Rude Mouse. Fx loop: Boss EQ-200 > MXR Phase 100 > Boss CH-1 > Boss DD-8
Boss DD-8 I ordered finally came in today! I definitely like it a lot already! Got the board rearranged for that and a mini rat clone

Tubes and Code .studio | WebAssembly Brings Real Music Software to Web Browsers
Explore how WebAssembly (Wasm) is revolutionizing music tech by bringing industry-standard DSP and amp modeling directly to the browser any installation process
Wasm is a cool technology that lets you compile programs for browsers. I'm noticing examples of it for music! You can run DSP in the browser, and I think it opens new kinds of interactive music/educational content
Wrote an article about the opportunities I see!

Had a tip for web/graphic design that I was going to share, but waking up to war crimes kind of made me not feel like it, of course
Still gotta do some blogging today though!

gimp is another (free) option, but it solves a different problem than Sketch (raster vs. vector editor)
Adobe has done a good job driving me out of their stuff totally over the past decade. And they even had a partnership with my uni to offer free CC to students! Still never got me fully hooked

Sketch Β· Design, prototype, collaborate and handoff
Sketch puts the focus back on you and your work. Made by designers, for designers.
If anyone is looking for a good app on Mac for graphic design that you can buy w/o a subscription plan, I recommend checking out Sketch. Broadly useful
Used it to make some stuff for Instagram today, and I set up color variables and fonts to make things consistent with my website

Nothing To Say
YouTube video by Slash - Topic
I didn't know that Slash did a song featuring M. Shadows on his 2010 solo album until yesterday!
And I was definitely a big A7X fan back then too (still am π€)
I don't think this is what most of us hear in our heads when we imagine Slash's playing!

Yeah, that's a great example. I think it's semi-common knowledge to some extent that "recorded tapping" != "live tapping", but there's room to be dishonest. And I'm not going to pretend to be skilled enough to tell, especially with the pace that platforms shove short videos at people

I think a lot of the debate about "fake guitar playing on Instagram" is interesting.
Seems like Instagram rewards cinematic guitar playing along with musicianship. Whole world got pushed to video. Is it wrong to mime something for insta separately from and after recording in a daw? Hypothetically π€

Tubes and Code .studio | With NAM A2 around the Corner, is it a Good Time to Buy NAM Hardware?
Itβs a great time to buy NAM hardware but a bad time to overcommit. Hereβs how A2, conversion pipelines, and vendor firmware history should shape your decision.
Curious about NAM hardware but also if the A2 upgrade in March makes it a good/bad time to buy?
There's a < $100 tier of pedals and amps that I enjoy but will run a shrunken model with/without A2. Dimehead is working on A2 support too!
