TONE3000’s new live input feature makes playable guitar articles a thing! and they make that tech open-source.

Like so many musicians of my generation, the music of Pink Floyd touched my life in a profound way and helped shape the way I hear and feel music.
And for this article about recording a DI tone from an amp's FX loop, I added some playable captures of just my preamp to give a live/playable demo of that

I updated a couple of my existing articles to show kind of what I mean by "playable articles."
For example, one of the amps in John Mayer's Archetype plugin is a Dumble. Now you can load in a free Dumble capture at the end for comparison/baseline purposes.

I like that the pedal has a switch to toggle between buffered bypass and true bypass... it actually came in handy here (running buffered now b/c I don't have a buffer after it).
A pedalboard: Tuner > DigiTech Drop > Donner noise gate > Xotic SP Compressor > Deciduous Devices Wisteria Overdrive > Sonicake Rude Mouse. Fx loop: Boss EQ-200 > MXR Phase 100 > Boss CH-1 > Boss DD-8

Wasm is a cool technology that lets you compile programs for browsers. I'm noticing examples of it for music! You can run DSP in the browser, and I think it opens new kinds of interactive music/educational content

gimp is another (free) option, but it solves a different problem than Sketch (raster vs. vector editor)
Adobe has done a good job driving me out of their stuff totally over the past decade. And they even had a partnership with my uni to offer free CC to students! Still never got me fully hooked
If anyone is looking for a good app on Mac for graphic design that you can buy w/o a subscription plan, I recommend checking out Sketch. Broadly useful

The book that got me into computers all those years ago. Complete with things like state-variable filters written in BASIC and PDP-11 assembly code.

Yeah, that's a great example. I think it's semi-common knowledge to some extent that "recorded tapping" != "live tapping", but there's room to be dishonest. And I'm not going to pretend to be skilled enough to tell, especially with the pace that platforms shove short videos at people

If it is wrong, how is it different from classic music videos? We don't complain about the "fake guitar" in those old videos
I think a lot of the debate about "fake guitar playing on Instagram" is interesting.
Seems like Instagram rewards cinematic guitar playing along with musicianship. Whole world got pushed to video. Is it wrong to mime something for insta separately from and after recording in a daw? Hypothetically 🤔
Curious about NAM hardware but also if the A2 upgrade in March makes it a good/bad time to buy?
There's a < $100 tier of pedals and amps that I enjoy but will run a shrunken model with/without A2. Dimehead is working on A2 support too!
